Via The Gate, you can earn a 30% bonus when you convert Marriott points into American Airlines miles through December 5, 2017.  Depending on the number of points you convert, you can earn up to ~.46 American Airlines miles per Marriott point!

30% More American Airlines Miles When Transferring From Marriott

I generally do NOT recommend folks transfer hotel points to airlines.  Because you’ll almost always get a better deal using hotel points for hotel stays.  However, when there’s a generous transfer bonus to your favorite airline, it might make sense!

Through December 5, 2017, you’ll receive 30% more American Airlines miles when you transfer points from Marriott.  This is similar to a recent bonus we saw between Starwood and American Airlines, which is good through October 31, 2017.

The conversion rate will depend on how many Marriott points you want to transfer.  Because the more you transfer, the better the ratio.

The Conversion Rate From Marriott to American Airlines Is NOT Great. This Transfer Bonus Helps, Though!

For example, if you transfer 10,000 Marriott points, you’ll get a total of 2,600 American Airlines miles, for a transfer ratio of 10:2.6 (10,000 Marriott points = 2,000 American Airlines miles + 600 mile bonus).

But if you transfer 70,000 Marriott points, you’ll get a total of 32,500 American Airlines miles, for a transfer ratio of 10:4.6 (70,000 Marriott points = 25,000 American Airlines miles + 7,500 mile bonus).  That’s significantly better!

However, I still wouldn’t transfer Marriott points to American Airlines unless you have a specific award in mind.  Because Marriott points will likely give you a better value for hotel stays.  And American Airlines saver award seats are still pretty difficult to come by!

Note:   Marriott Hotel + Air Packages do NOT qualify for this transfer bonus.

Bottom Line

Through December 5, 2017, you’ll get a 30% bonus when you transfer points from Marriott to American Airlines.  The more points you transfer, the better value you’ll get for your hotel points!

But I recommend saving your Marriott points for hotel stays, unless you have a certain award in mind.  Or transferring your Marriott points into Starwood points, to take advantage of the American Airlines – Starwood transfer bonus by October 31, 2017.  Where you’ll likely get a better deal, especially if you transfer in increments of 20,000 points!
