If you’re interested in 5-star extravagance, you’re going to love this news.
Marriott will soon increase the award price of their BEST hotels. We can expect to pay 85,000 Marriott points per night for the most desirable locations. But until then, Marriott is giving folks the opportunity to book these hotels for just 60,000 Marriott points per night.
We thought this discount would last only through December 31, 2018. But we now know that Marriott is giving us an extra couple of months to book at these rates! If you don’t have the points you need to book these hotels right now, this post explains how you can book now (with points) and pay for it later. And be sure to check out our guide on all the ways to earn Marriott points.
Marriott Extends Discount for 5-Star Hotels and Resorts
Marriott’s award chart is changing next year. And all of it’s most luxurious, Instagrammable hotels (known as “Category 8 hotels“) will shoot up in price. Resorts like the St. Regis Bali, W Maldives, Al Maha Desert Resort in Dubai, and the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch in Colorado will cost 85,000 points per night.
But until March 2019, all Category 8 hotels are lumped in with the Category 7 hotels, which cost 60,000 points per night. So if you’re planning on staying at one of these resorts, you have until March 2019 to book them at a 25,000-point discount. That’s 2+ months longer than we originally thought these discounted rates would last!
We don’t know when in March these rates will disappear, so with the information we have now, you should book by February 28, 2019. Marriott allows you to book a hotel 350+ days in advance. That means you’ll be able to reserve a stay in February 2020 for these prices!
I booked 5 nights at the St. Regis Maldives for October 2019. The resort sells for ~$1,400 per night, so this is an incredible use of Marriott points! I don’t have any idea how I’ll get there at the moment, but I have 10 months to figure it out.
Plus, you don’t even need enough Marriott points in your account to reserve your stay! Read this post for 5 easy steps to booking your absolute dream hotel with this Marriott deal.
If you need more Marriott points, open cards like the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express and earn the welcome bonuses. It’s the fastest way to get the points you need. You and your travel buddies can open the cards and combine your points for free to rack up the points even faster!
Important Note: The new Marriott award chart introduces “Peak” and “Off-Peak” award prices beginning January 1, 2019. That means the price of your hotel may be higher or lower than the standard rate, depending on when you book. For Category 7 hotels, Peak pricing is 70,000 points and Off-Peak pricing is 50,000 points.
We do NOT know which dates will count as Peak and Off-Peak. So you may want to book your hotels BEFORE January 1, 2019, to lock in the standard rate of 60,000 points. If your desired dates are on off-peak dates, you should be able cancel and re-book at a lower price.
