You can earn 75,000 Marriott points after meeting minimum spending requirements with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card.  It’s a great option for those who regularly stay at Marriott hotels, or anyone looking to take advantage of the card’s incredibly valuable benefits.

A few of the most notable card perks are the up to $300 in annual statement credits for purchases made at participating Marriott hotels and the up to $100 property credit cardholders can receive at Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis hotels.  For me, it’s perks like these that make the card’s $450 annual fee worth it (See Rates & Fees).

I’ll share the details of how the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant AMEX credits work and help you decide whether the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card is worth it for you, too!

Here’s our full Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant AMEX review

Along with 75,000 Marriott point welcome offer after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, it comes with numerous fantastic perks.  Here’s a look at how two of the most valuable card benefits work.

1.   $300 Annual Statement Credit to Use at Participating Marriott Hotels

Every cardmember year you’ll receive up to $300 in statement credits for Marriott purchases charged to your card.  This benefit is incredibly easy to use because just about any charge made at a participating Marriott hotel will qualify.  This includes charges like room rates and incidentals charged to the room.

Order $150 in room service?  Your annual credit will cover it!  Want to enjoy a few drinks at the pool bar?  The credit can cover that, too!  Or you can just use your card to pay for your room and you’ll see a statement credit within 8 to 12 weeks (although mine actually showed up within days!).

Just note, incidentals that can’t be billed to your room, like gift shop purchases, will likely be ineligible for the credit.  That’s because oftentimes, the gift shop is run by a 3rd-party vendor and not the hotel itself.

2.   $100 Property Credit at Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis Hotels

In addition to the $300 in annual statement credits, the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card also comes with up to $100 in property credits for qualifying charges when you book direct using a special rate at Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis hotels.

This credit comes from Marriott – it isn’t a statement credit issued through your AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, like the $300 credit I mentioned above.  Instead, it is applied as a credit from the hotel at checkout and NOT valid for property fees, taxes, gratuities, or the cost of a room.  So you can only use it towards other purchases made at the hotel, like spa services, dining purchases, activities, equipment rentals, etc.

I Can Personally Attest to the Outstanding Service Offered at The Spa at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara Santa Barbara. Even Better, You Can Use Your AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Card to Save on a Massage!

To ensure you get the credit, you must book your 2+ night stay online or over the phone at 800-450-4442.  And the best part is, you can use this credit for an unlimited number of qualifying stays each year!

If you make a booking over the phone you’ll need to mention the “$100 Property Credit, Luxury Credit Card Rate.”  If you’re booking online you’ll need to be logged into your Marriott account and select the Member rate named “$100 Property Credit, Luxury Credit Card Rate.”  In my experience, this rate matches the cheapest rate available.

Your AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card must be connected to your Marriott account in order for this rate be available.  And you must pay with your card at checkout.

You can read the full terms and conditions of this particular card benefit here.  And again, this perk is technically offered through Marriott, not American Express, so if you have any questions about it you’ll need to contact Marriott for answers.

Can you see the credit available on your Amex or Marriott account? Similar to the CSR credit where it shows you how much of the credit has been used?

What if you booked the stay on points? Can you still get the $300 credit & $100 credit if you made purchases at the hotel?

Hi Nancy! You’d be able to use the $300 credit for qualifying purchases at the hotel. But to use the $100 credit you have to book the applicable rate, so no, that particular credit wouldn’t work on award stays.
