This might be a good deal if you’re planning to a book a specific award flight, especially in Business Class.
I’ll explain more about this deal.
United Airlines Buy Miles Promotion
Through October 31, 2016, folks can earn up to a 75% bonus on United Airlines miles purchases.
To get the deal, log-in to the buy miles page. Then, you’ll see all of the options to purchase points.
There are 3 bonus categories. You’ll earn a:
- 25% bonus when you buy between 5,000 and 9,000 United Airlines miles.
- 50% bonus when you buy between 10,000 and 19,000 United Airlines miles.
- 75% bonus when you buy between 20,000 and 85,000 United Airlines miles.
The most miles you can get from this promotion is 148,750 United Airlines miles for ~$3,200, or ~2.15 cents per mile. That’s much better than the typical ~3.76 cents per mile it costs to purchase miles directly from United Airlines.
This promotion can be a good deal for folks looking to book Business Class award flights on United Airlines or airline partners. Or if you need to top-off your account for an award.
For example, with this deal, you can pay $1,505 for 40,000 United Airlines miles and get 30,000 United Airlines miles.
With 70,000 United Airlines miles, you’ll have enough to book a one-way non-stop United Airlines Business Class award flight from the US to New Zealand. This same flight can cost $3,400+ if you paid cash. So purchasing miles would save 50% off the flight cost!
On the other hand, redeeming for coach likely isn’t going to make sense, unless it is a last minute ticket that is very expensive!
Keep in mind, United Airlines miles expire in 18 months, unless there’s activity in your account. So if you purchase miles, you’ll want to use them before expiration.
And you’re limited to purchasing 150,000 United Airlines miles per account every calendar year.
Through October 31, 2016, you can earn up to a 75% bonus when you purchase United Airlines miles.
This can be a good deal for folks looking to book otherwise expensive Business Class flights. Or if you’re short miles for an award ticket.
