How’s This for a View? Use 100,000 Hilton Points for 2 Nights at the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice in the Low Season!

That’s enough for 2 nights at a top-tier hotel like the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice (depending on the season) where Emily and I stayed.  Or 10 nights at Hilton Category 2 hotels like the Hampton Inn by Hilton Guadalajara/Expo in Mexico.

The annual fee of $75 is NOT waived for the 1st year.

But this card earns the most Hilton points for paid stays.  So it’s the best option if you spend a lot of money at Hilton hotels.  And, it comes with Hilton Gold Elite status, which gets you free breakfast and room upgrades when available.

Here’s my review of the American Express Hilton Honors Surpass card.

If you need help choosing between the offers, here’s how to decide which Hilton card is right for you.

Depending on how you redeem your points, each sign-up bonus can be worth hundreds of dollars!

Keep These Tips in Mind!

Remember, American Express only allows folks to get the sign-up bonus ONCE per person, per lifetime on ALL their cards.  So if you’ve ever had either card, you can NOT earn the sign-up bonus again.

However, you CAN earn both card offers if you’ve never had either card because they’re considered different card products.  But, you should wait at least a day between AMEX applications to give each application time to process.

If you want to apply for both, be sure to give yourself enough time.  And read my tips on how to complete your minimum spending requirements.

@Tom W – You could earn the sign-up bonus on the AMEX Hilton HHonors Surpass card in that case.

Let me make sure I understand this — if I have had the regular AMEX Hilton Honors card some years ago, then I am not eligible to get the 100K signup bonus for the Hilton HHonors Surpass card — even though I have never had the Surpass card?

@jo – AMEX may not let you apply for more than 3 card within 90 days. And the total number of credit cards you can have with AMEX in total is usually four.

You can always call and ask if they’ll reconsider you – it never hurts to try!

Closing other cards to get a new one would also be something to ask the representative you talk with. If they won’t consider your application, you wouldn’t have to close any of your other cards. This sounds like a case where it’s worth a call.

Let us know your experience! Good luck – my fingers are crossed for you!

D,

Applied AMEX HH Surpass just now but got denied due to “reached the maximum number and type of Cards that we will approve within the period of a few months” (got 2 at the last week of March, BC and Starwood).

1. Do you have good experience with AMEX reconsideration dept?

2. What’s the best way to approach this?

3. In addition to the two new ones, I already have four other cards, 3 (delta/HH/Costco) no fee and not used, 1 is up for annul renewal in July. If I close out 3 now, then call the reconsideration, you think that would help?

4. what is the max # of AMEX personal card can one have according to AMEX?

@Jo – Yes, it’s possible to get both cards.

@Kirk – Great information! Thanks for sharing.

@Ian – It works for me. Perhaps try a different browser, or a private browsing session – that may help it show up for you. Let me know if it still doesn’t work.

@Billy – Hilton points expire after 12 months of not earning or spending points:

@Chad W. – Excellent news! Congrats!
