Through September 14, 2016, you’ll receive a 20% bonus when you transfer Starwood points to American Airlines.
When you transfer Starwood points in increments of 20,000, Starwood will give you an extra 5,000 miles. And with this promotion, you’ll get 20% more miles when transferring to American Airlines.
That means when you transfer 20,000 Starwood points to American Airlines, Starwood will deposit 30,000 miles into your account (20,000 Starwood points + 5,000 point bonus = 25,000 miles. 25,000 miles + 20% promotion bonus = 30,000 miles). That’s enough for a one-way coach award flight from the US to Europe!
You can transfer up to 79,999 Starwood points to American Airlines miles every 24 hours.
Should You Take Advantage of This Promotion?
This promotion is a good deal for anyone who travels on American Airlines or their airline partners.
American Airlines miles are valuable. You can use American Airlines miles to fly just about anywhere, thanks to partner airlines like Air Berlin, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas.Read my posts about how to use American Airlines miles to fly to Europe. And how to use fewer American Airlines miles during off-peak dates.
Note: It can take ~7 to 10 days for the Starwood points to transfer into your American Airlines account. And American Airlines adds the 20% promotion bonus within a week after the transfer posts. So do NOT make the transfer if you need miles immediately!
