Do you find it hard to disconnect from your family and friends when you board a flight? Alaska Airlines is working to solve that problem!
Via One Mile at a Time, Alaska Airlines now offers FREE in-flight messaging on all their Gogo Wi-Fi-enabled flights. And this appears to be a permanent feature!
I’ll share details about this new perk from Alaska Airlines!
Stay in Contact With Friends for Free on Alaska Airlines Flights
Link: Free In-Flight Messaging With Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines now offers very limited free access to their Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi, allowing their customers to stay in contact during their flight. You won’t be able to surf the web (you’ll have to pay for that), but you’ll be able to use your messaging app! All you have to do is:
- Turn on your phone’s Wi-Fi
- Connect to the “gogoinflight” network
- Launch your web browser
- Select “Free Chat”
But there are restrictions to keep in mind.
You can only send and receive text (no photos or videos). And you’ll need to make sure you have one of the following apps on your phone:
These are the only apps the Alaska Airlines free in-flight Wi-Fi will work with.
And, of course, you’ll only be able to use this new feature on Alaska Airlines planes equipped with Gogo Wi-Fi.
Get Free Messaging on Other Airlines, Too!
Free messaging is great, but there are ways to get full internet access for free on other US airlines.
If you’re a T-Mobile customer, you’ll have access to 1 hour of free Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi (the T-Mobile ONE Plus plan gives you free Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi for the whole flight!). You’ll have access to any US airline with Gogo Wi-Fi.
There are also credit cards that offer free Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi passes, like:
- U.S. Bank FlexPerks® Travel Rewards Visa Signature® card – 12 free in-flight Wi-Fi passes for flights on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, and Virgin America (soon to be Alaska Airlines)
- The Business Platinum® Card from American Express – 10 free Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi passes per calendar year
Bottom Line
I love the improvements Alaska Airlines is making, like expanding its fleet and route map with the Virgin America merger. And now it’s improving the in-flight experience with free messaging!
Let me know if you’ve had experience with this new feature from Alaska Airlines. I can’t wait to try it out!
