The official 2015 category bonuses for the Chase Freedom credit card are out!
The Chase Freedom is great because you can easily earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on regular purchases. Spend $1,500 in the categories each quarter to get 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. And you can use those points to get $75.
But I prefer to use the points for Big Travel with Small Money. I’ll explain!
How to Use the Freedom Categories to Get Big Travel

The Chase Freedom has no annual fee so you can keep it for a long time. This helps your credit score and builds a relationship with Chase which often has the best credit card offers.
Some folks like to redeem the Chase Ultimate Rewards points for 5% cash back. But you can also transfer them to the Chase Sapphire Preferred, (no longer offered) Chase Ink Bold, or the Chase Ink Plus and from there to airline or hotel partners such as Hyatt or United Airlines.
For instance, when you spend the maximum of $1,500 in the categories each quarter, you’ll earn 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points. So at the end of the year, you will have collected 30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points (7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per quarter X 4 quarters).
That’s worth $300 if you choose cash back. But when you have the Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or the Chase Ink Plus you can transfer your 30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to 30,000 United Airlines miles.
That’s more than enough United Airlines miles for a round-trip award flight to anywhere in the US (excluding Hawaii), Alaska, and Canada! Depending where you want to go, that can be worth much more than $300!
30,000 United Airlines miles can also get you a 1-way flight to Europe. Most 1-way flights to Europe cost much more than $300.
Finally, when you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold, or Chase Ink Plus, you can book any flight on any airline with no blackout dates through the Ultimate Rewards travel portal for a 20% discount when you pay with Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
So you could use the 30,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earned with your Freedom card for a $375 flight!
