Updated Citi American Airlines Credit Card Welcome Offers

Here are the details for these updated offers.  We’ve seen offers this high for these cards in the past.  But these deals are better because the minimum spending requirements are lower than they have been before.

It is possible to have both of these cards at the same time.  But you’re not eligible for the Citi American Airlines Platinum card’s bonus if you have opened or closed any Citi American Airlines credit card in the last 24 months (not including the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp℠ Card or  CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®).

Your business is not eligible for the Citi American Airlines Business card if it currently has the card and you won’t qualify for the card’s bonus if you have opened or closed the card in the past 24 months.

1.  CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®

With the Citi American Airlines Business Platinum card, you can earn 70,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after making $4,000 in purchases in the first 4 months of account opening.

Plus, you’ll get:

  • 2X American Airlines miles per $1 spent on eligible American Airlines purchases
  • 2X American Airlines miles per $1 spent on certain telecommunications merchants, cable and satellite providers, rental car merchants, and at gas stations
  • 1 American Airlines mile per $1 spent on other purchases
  • Free first checked bag for you and up to 4 travel companions on the same reservation (domestic flights only)
  • Priority boarding for you and up to 4 travel companions on the same reservation
  • 25% savings on in-flight food, drink, and Wi-Fi purchased with your card
  • No foreign transaction fees

And you can also earn an American Airlines companion certificate (for domestic coach travel) after you spend $30,000 or more in purchases during your card year and renew your card.

The card’s $99 annual fee is waived for the first 12 months.  If you’re a small business owner looking for other card options, be sure to check out our list of best business credit cards.

2.  Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®

The Citi American Airlines Platinum Select card has a sign-up bonus of 60,000 American Airlines miles after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

  • 2X American Airlines miles per $1 spent on American Airlines flights
  • 2X American Airlines miles per $1 spent at gas stations and restaurants
  • 1X American Airlines miles per $1 spent on other purchases
  • Free first checked bag for you and up to 4 travel companions on the same reservation (domestic flights only)
  • Priority boarding for you and up to 4 travel companions on the same reservation
  • 25% off eligible in-flight purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees

The card’s $99 annual fee is waived for the first 12 months.  With the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select card, you can also get a 10% rebate on American Airlines mileage redemptions (up to 10,000 miles back per year).

But that perk is going away on May 1, 2019.  Jason is considering having his wife apply for this card now so they can take advantage of the rebate before it disappears.  They’ve got plans to redeem 100,000+ American Airlines miles soon, so for them, it’ll be like earning an extra 10,000 miles.

This card is also increasing the American Airlines flight discount you can earn to $125 after you spend $20,000 or more in purchases during your card membership year and renew your card.

The ability to earn 60,000 to 70,000 American Airlines miles with a single credit card is a solid deal.  These are good offers if you’re looking for domestic flights.  American Airlines only charges 7,500 miles for a one-way coach flight that’s 500 miles or less and it’s 12,500 miles to a one-way coach flight of 500+ miles.  They can also be great for off-peak flights to Europe or the Caribbean.

And both of these cards will get you access to American Airlines’ Reduced Mileage Awards.

These are NOT the best offer! There are 65k and 75k out there, do a search before you apply!

Any idea how long these offers will last?

You’re incorrect about the Citi 24 month rule. Citi changed the rule a few months ago. You are now only eligible to get the bonus 24 months from the time you received the last bonus, not from when you opened the card. This could pus it up to 27 months. The 24 month rule still applies from when you closed the card.

I believe the language you’re referring too was changed on some Citi applications. However, the applications for both of these cards still show the old 24-month language in regards to opening and closing, but don’t mention when you last earned a bonus.

You wrote “Your business is not eligible for the Citi American Airlines Business card if it currently has the card and you won’t qualify for the card’s bonus if you have opened or closed the card in the past 24 months.”

How accurate is the first part of the statement? I don’t see it in the terms..

Thanks

Jason Stauffer

If you click on the application link on the land page these are the terms near the top:

“This card is not available if the business already has a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard® card. Bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card opened or closed in the past 24 months.”

Hope that helps.

I’ve been putting the Citi AA card on hold for a few years now, however, I’ve wanted it since I started my credit card journey. After seeing the 70K AA business card offer, I figured… what the heck.

I decided to look up my most frequent air route, TUL-MCO, to see if AA would benefit me like I want it to. It does! I need those cheap reward Disney World flights!!

I applied for the business card since I have a side business and was instantly approved.

I haven’t flown AA in YEARS because I focused so much on Delta rewards. I’ve accumulated/used around 400,000 SkyMiles from credit card bonuses over the last 3 years. With the help from MMS, of course!

Time to see what AA rewards can do for me.

That’s great to hear, thanks for sharing.
