Looking for another way to use your IHG points?

The folks at IHG let us know they’re running the Share Summer promotion through August 31, 2017.

With this deal, you can use your IHG points to buy experiences like courtside seats at the US Open, tickets to the Georgia Aquarium, a 4-night vacation package at the Holiday Inn Resort Waikiki Beachcomber, and more!  And new items will be added every weekday, throughout the summer!

Here’s more about the Share Summer promotion.

Bid on Auction Items With Your IHG Points

Through August 31, 2017, IHG and Coca-Cola have teamed up to offer the Share Summer promotion.

New auction items will be posted daily (on weekdays only).  And you can use your IHG points to bid on experiences and merchandise.

Similar to SPG moments from Starwood, you can buy all kinds of unique experiences, like tickets to sporting events, Broadway shows, vacation packages, and music festivals.

IHG Share Summer Promotion
Auction Items Are Going for Anywhere From 1,000 IHG Points to 500,000+ Points!

And for as little as 1,000 IHG points, you can buy Coca-Cola swag.  But please don’t use your IHG points like this!  😉

Throughout the summer, new auction items will be added daily.  The opening bid amounts, bid increments, and length of the auctions vary.

Is It Worth It?

If you find an experience you’re interested in and have the IHG points to spare, bidding on it might make sense!

But as always, do the math to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

For example, you can buy 2 tickets to the Georgia Aquarium through IHG Auctions for 10,000 IHG points.

Because you can buy IHG points for as little as 0.6 cents a piece with the Points & Cash trick, 10,000 IHG points would cost $60 (0.06 cents X 10,000 points).

Two general admission tickets to the aquarium normally cost ~$64.  So it wouldn’t make sense to buy points to take advantage of this particular item.

That said, other auction items might be worth it!  Especially once-in-a-lifetime experiences that you couldn’t afford otherwise, like courtside tickets at the US Open in New York.  At the time of writing, the current bid was 51,000 IHG points.  And tickets like these can easily go for ~$600+ a piece!

So check IHG Auctions throughout the promotional period to see if you find something that sparks your interest!

If you want more IHG points, you could consider the Chase IHG card.  The current sign-up bonus is 60,000 IHG points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.  Plus a $50 statement credit after your first purchase.

It’s also one of the few cards NOT restricted by Chase’s application rules.

We don’t earn a commission for this offer, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals.

You can also check out the current IHG Accelerate promotion, where you earn bonus points for completing different tasks, like staying at multiple brands, or booking a weekend stay.

And don’t forget about the recent IHG buy points promotion.  Where you can get up to a 100% bonus on purchased IHG points!

Bottom Line

Through August 31, 2017, you can use IHG points to bid on unique merchandise and experiences through their Share Summer promotion.

Auction items include things like a vacation package to Hawaii, courtside seats at the US Open, and more!

New items will be added daily (excluding weekends!), so check back to see if there’s something that interests you.  But as always, I recommend doing the math to see what makes sense for you.

I like genealogy and working with Ancestry I can do it anywhere in the world i have internet…researching in old newspapers for tidbits on early homestead days…building the family tree is relaxing and fun to do on vacation

I like papercrafting – scrapbooking, card making, creating bulletin boards etc.

I just love researching our travel plans. Is it a hobby or just an addiction. :} Looking for the best deal and location for each part of our trip. Points are certainly one of the best deal.
I even plan day trips for our community residents. We’ll do one a month starting in September thru May, been doing this for over five years.

Another hobby I have is Geocaching.

I am taking a dream trip to Kenya on points for humanitarian work and I would be so grateful if I could take a less fortunate friend in Nairobi on a trip of his dream to Mombasa beach!
