I have mentioned before how easy it can be to earn miles & points by taking advantage of airline and hotel dining programs.

IHG has a dining program of its own.  But you can now stack those bonus points you earn with 2 new ways to earn IHG points.

IHG has partnered with Grubhub and OpenTable.  I’ll tell you what that means!

Bonus IHG Points for Using Grubhub and OpenTable

IHG will now give folks bonus points for ordering food and making restaurant reservations through the IHG app!  You won’t earn a mind-staggering amount of points, but every point counts!

Here’s how the partnerships work.

1.   Grubhub

When you use the IHG app to order food from Grubhub, you’ll earn:

  • 500 IHG points for your first order
  • 250 IHG points for every order after that

The catch is that you’ll need to be staying at an IHG hotel to earn the bonus points.  So this is only useful for folks who are traveling.

You’ll Need to Be Staying at an IHG Hotel to Get Bonus IHG Points With Grubhub

Just open your IHG mobile app, and you should see a Grubhub banner.  Click it, and enter your IHG number and hotel.  Then you’ll be taken to the normal Grubhub site, where you can order like you normally would!

2.   OpenTable

Earning bonus IHG points through OpenTable is much easier than Grubhub.  That’s because you do NOT need to be staying at an IHG hotel to earn the points.

I don’t see the option available on the IHG app yet, but it’s likely similar to Grubhub (enter your info and desired restaurant).  Once this feature becomes available, you’ll earn:

  • 500 IHG points for your first completed reservation
  • 300 IHG points for a completed reservation at an IHG hotel
  • 150 IHG points for a completed reservation at all other restaurants

Both of these new partnerships aren’t jaw-dropping.  But it’s still a nice way to effortlessly earn bonus points on purchases you’d make anyway.  Points can add up quickly, you know!

An easy way to earn IHG points is to sign-up for the Chase IHG card.  It comes with a sign-up bonus of 60,000 IHG points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.  Plus a $50 statement credit after your first purchase!

You can also register for the current IHG Accelerate promotion, where you will earn bonus points for completing different tasks, like staying at multiple brands, or booking a weekend stay.

Bottom Line

You can now earn bonus IHG points with Grubhub and OpenTable.  Just order your food and make your reservations through the IHG app, and you’ll earn between 150 and 500 IHG points!

That seems like an inconsequential amount of points, but I’m of the opinion that every point counts!
