Last week we let y’all know about the British Airways data breach. And now, British Airways is offering those affected a little bit of reassurance with free credit monitoring.
Anyone affected should receive an email from British Airways with an offer for a free 12-month subscription to Experian’s ProtectMyID program. They have also said they will reimburse customers for any financial loss suffered as a direct result of this hack. If you believe you were impacted and didn’t get an email, I suggest calling British Airways to ask for the same courtesy.
A few folks on Flyertalk have reported suspicious charges to their account, so it appears that some of the data that was stolen is being used fraudulently.
As a reminder, this theft doesn’t appear to have impacted everyone who has a British Airways account, but rather only those folks who made a booking from August 21 through September 5, 2018. Including bookings made on both the British Airways website and mobile app.
