When planning a trip to Chicago for the Chicago Seminars, I realized it’d be a quick flight for my mom to join me there. It’d give her a chance to see her granddaughter again, too (and give me a free babysitter)!
I used to live in Chicago so I am anxious to re-visit the city, my friends who live there, and of course, my favorite restaurants! I have a stash of Chase Ultimate Rewards points that I use for last-minute travel plans, and those points came in handy — in fact, I saved ~$750!!
When I looked at the cash cost for round-trip flights from Traverse City to Chicago on Google Flights, I found ~$825 tickets.
I know airlines jack up the prices as the flight date approaches. So then I looked on the American Airlines and United Airlines websites to see what points prices they were charging. Luckily, United Airlines came to the rescue!
There was so much availability for cheap 10,000 nonstop, one-way flights. Woohoo! I am so glad that United Airlines doesn’t jack up points prices before a flight like they do the cash cost.
I had to pay a $75 close-in booking fee, but it was alright because I only spent 20,000 United Airlines miles for the flight which I transferred for free from Chase. 😉
If you want to top off your own emergency stash of Chase points, then consider getting the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card. You can earn a massive 80,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
