Hyatt recently made big changes to their award chart, including the ability to book premium suites with points. This new perk could get you an insane amount of value from your Hyatt points!
If you’re the type of person who enjoys coming back to a nice hotel room at the end of a long day of traveling or exploring, this is a welcome change. And considering how easy it is to earn Hyatt points, like by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points from cards like the Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, you could very quickly find yourself in a luxurious Hyatt premium suite on your next vacation!
But there are still a few quirks and wrinkles to keep in mind.
If you’re considering Hyatt premium suites with points for your next hotel stay, let’s dive into how you can find these suites, and just how much value you could receive from this new use of Hyatt points!
What Are Hyatt Premium Suites and Where Can You Find Them?
Hyatt premium suites you can book with points are one category above a standard suite. These rooms are generally much larger, often times more than twice as large as a standard room, and often come with executive lounge access so you’ll be treated to breakfast, snacks, and drinks at no additional charge.
Not all Hyatt locations offer premium suites, and each hotel defines their suites differently, so it’s something you’ll want to pay close attention to. To figure out if premium suites are available, you’ll have to visit the specific Hyatt hotel’s website, and then click on the rooms tab. You’ll be given a brief description of each room, along with an indication of whether it is classified as a standard or premium suite.
Digging through the fine print in the terms and conditions, you’ll also find that premium suites are excluded from Specialty, Premier, Presidential, and Diplomatic suite categories, and are also unavailable at the following locations:

Is It Worth Booking Premium Suites With Points?
If you decide to use points for a premium suite, you really can get an insane amount of value depending on when and where you’re booking. Here are just a few examples!
Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome
The Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome is of the most luxurious hotels in Paris, and they do have premium suites you can book with points! Their smallest premium suite is nearly twice the size of their standard rooms, so you’ll definitely be in for a treat!
I looked up room availability in December and found that the premium suites eligible to be booked with points ranged in price from $1,256 to $1,643 per night.
But instead of paying those prices in cash, now you can make a premium suite booking with 60,000 Hyatt points! Even with the most inexpensive premium suite priced at $1,256, you’d still be getting more than 2 cents per point from this redemption ($1,256 / 60,000 points).
Hyatt Regency Kathmandu
You’ll find that the standard rooms here are ~387 square feet. Their premium suites are more than twice the size at over 860 square feet!
You’d be right if you were thinking the extra space comes with a hefty price tag, but only if you pay in cash! I looked at prices for a January 2019 stay, and found that standard rooms would run around $140 per night, or 5,000 Hyatt points. Booking a premium suite would set you back a whopping $659!
But with the new award chart and added flexibility of Hyatt points, you can book that same $659 premium suite for just an extra 5,000 points!
So for a total of 10,000 Hyatt points per night, you’d be able to book a suite valued at $659. That’s a value of nearly 7 cents per point!
Hyatt Regency Dulles
You can also get great bang for your buck at the Hyatt Regency Dulles. A standard room will set you back about $93 per night, or 5,000 Hyatt points. Alternatively, you can spring for a premium suite for just an additional 5,000 points.
Premium suites typically run around $293, so you’d still be getting an excellent value of nearly 3 cents per point ($293 / 10,000 points).
And with the premium suites measuring at just over 800 square feet, that’s more than twice the size of the standard rooms for not that many more Hyatt points!
Miraval Resorts
Award stays at a Miraval resort in a premium suite will set you back quite a bit, at 105,000 Hyatt points per night, per person. I looked at room availability in January for Miraval Austin, and found that the most expensive room was around $1,100 per night.
At first glance that doesn’t seem to be a very good value to be spending 105,000 points for a ~$1,000 room. But Miraval resorts generally include very luxurious accommodations, a resort credit up to $175 per person, plenty of meal options, and complimentary activities. So depending on how much you value these activities, an award stay here could still be well worth it for you.
How to Book a Premium Suite With Points
While it’s possible to get outstanding value from your Hyatt points for a premium suite award redemption, you might be asking yourself how you can book one of these for yourself! This is the step where things can get a bit tricky.
Unlike standard rooms, you won’t be able to book one of these suites with points through the Hyatt website. And even if you find premium suites available to be booked online, that doesn’t necessarily translate to an available award night. According to Hyatt’s terms and conditions, the only way to book a premium suite award night is to call them directly, which is when they’ll check award availability and confirm whether the suite you want is eligible to be booked with points.
Also remember that premium suites are excluded from Specialty, Premier, Presidential, and Diplomatic suite categories, and are also unavailable at certain locations. So even if a room is designated as a premium suite online, it may not be eligible to be booked with points!
Considering premium suite award redemptions only just became an option as of November 1, 2018, it’s a bit too soon to tell how award availability will be treated in practice. I did a search on forums online and found that standard suite availability, historically, has been hit or miss. I’m hoping that premium suite award availability will be better, but only time will tell. So in the meantime, it’s probably best to make your travel plans well in advance if you’re set on trying out a premium suite for yourself.
