Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain because they are a partner of the fabulous Chase Ultimate Rewards program, and you can book some excellent 5-star hotels with a decent amount of points.  I’ve stayed in incredible Hyatt hotels that cost ~$900 per night for nearly free, including the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome and my personal favorite, the Park Hyatt Milan.

I was able to stay in large suites in Hyatt because of status, but now you can book roomy, luxurious suites with points!

The Park Hyatt in Milan Was My Favorite Hyatt Hotel, Ever!

Bye-Bye, Hyatt Top Tier Status

I enjoyed the perks of Hyatt Diamond status for many years, and I got spoiled on the upgrades, amenities (free breakfast, free parking, etc), and service.  I haven’t had significant status with Hyatt since they changed their loyalty program in March 2017, which made it much more difficult to earn Hyatt status.

I thought about trying to chase Hyatt status since my mom has some home renovation expenses that she was willing to share with me, but it’s still a lot of spending, and I would only get status for 1 year.

It Was Nice While It Lasted…But No More Free In-Room Breakfast Service For Me!

Hello, Guaranteed Suites

As of November 1, you can book or upgrade to a premium Hyatt suite with points, and without any minimum length of stay requirement!  That means I can book suites without having to have elite Hyatt status!  I’m relying on beefing up my Chase Ultimate Rewards pot and adding some fresh Hyatt points to my account so that I can book suites when I want.

What’s your hotel status strategy for the coming year?  I’m pretty happy with mine so far!  Now if only Airbnb would become a Chase or Amex transfer partner!

Airbnb AMEX or other point transfer partner . . . . i hope that will NEVER happen, as Airbnb is just not good for the entire industry! They ruin jobs, make a ton of money for doing NOTHING while hotels have to get back to you if you have a any sort of difficulties during your stay or after you checke out, while Airbnb just wants to make big $$$ for not much effort! I’m happy without such companies and either you are a REAL “loyal” guest or just pass on and stay at the budget travel and also act so then. The best from both sides is like being into men but like to go to bed with women or being a moslem but prefer pork as your favorite dish. 🙁 The name “LOYALTY” has it’s meaning and Airbnb just does NOT fit in that world i think. A Company that ruins jobs, cheats on taxes and is just in general bad for the economy!

Are you allowed to use Hyatt points to upgrade to a suite on only paid stays? Let’s say you book a Hyatt room on points, can you upgrade with points?

Emily, great article.

I love the Hyatt hotels as well. We stayed recently at the Hyatt in San Jose by the airport. Breakfast was free. I transferred points from Chase UR Portal, so I was happy to get the free breakfast. No one was in the breakfast area, strong-arming people who booked through another means. I was half expecting that, but nope.

We have the Hyatt credit card. It’s a great one. I like the free night each year.

Hi Cindy, Thanks for commenting. Glad to know a fellow Hyatt fan. 🙂 Here’s to continued free breakfast.

Does anyone offer transfers to Airbnb?

Not yet! I did write about what I’d like to see in an Airbnb loyalty program. Check it out when you have a few minutes, and I’d love to hear your comments. https://millionmilesecrets.com/news/chase-ultimate-rewards-or-american-express-membership-rewards-should-partner-with-airbnb/

I see; I just read your other post. So I can erase credits towards Airbnb w a couple of CC’s. I think I already used the Capitol “fee” card and cancelled it this year though. Good ideas about rewarding methods for Airbnb.

Thanks for the explanation. I used Airbnb in FLA for the first time this summer and I liked it.

Oh, with respect… nice haircut.

Yes, you got it right. You can also check out the Capital One Savor if you already have/had the Venture. And glad you like my haircut. 🙂
