Any idea how long the Chase Sapphire Preferred sign-up bonus of 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points will be around?

You can earn 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred when you spend $4,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.

That’s a 10,000 point increase from the previous offer on this card!

How Much Time Does John Have to Sign-Up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Earn 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points?

I have great news, John!  It looks like this deal is going to be around for a while! Chase has NOT indicated this is a limited time offer.  That said, Chase can change their mind at any point.

This helps the Chase Sapphire Preferred card stay competitive with the Citi ThankYou Premier card folks are excited about.  Now both cards offer a 50,000 point sign-up bonus!

Each card waives the $95 annual fee for the 1st year, but the minimum spending on the Chase Sapphire Preferred is $1,000 higher.

But Chase still has better airline and hotel transfer partners, including my 2 favorites, United Airlines and Hyatt.

You could transfer the 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn with your Chase Sapphire Preferred to Hyatt for a night at the elegant Park Hyatt Beaver Creek in Colorado.  And with a bit more spending you’ll have enough for 2 nights!

Other benefits John will get with the Chase Sapphire Preferred include:

  • 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 spent on travel and dining
  • 1X Chase Ultimate Rewards point per $1 spent on other purchases
  • 5,000 bonus Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you add an authorized user who makes a purchase within the 1st 3 months
  • Primary car rental insurance – Covers damage or theft to your rental car, when you pay for the rental with your card
  • Trip delay reimbursement – Get up to $500 back per ticket when your trip is delayed more than 12 hours
  • NO foreign transaction fees

The $95 annual fee is waived the 1st year.  And there’s likely plenty of time to sign-up!

Although if you’re new to this hobby, you should consider making this your 1st card because of the new stricter Chase application rules.

If you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely Chase will approve you for the Chase Sapphire Preferred.  Or other Chase Ultimate Rewards points-earning cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Chase Freedom, or Chase Ink Cash.

Thanks for your question, John!

What if I have opened more than 5 cards but have closed most of them? If I have less than 5 open cards, is that good enough to qualify for Chase Sapphire?

@P T – It really just depends on how much credit Chase is willing to extend to you. If you have a good credit history, and have applied for fewer than 5 cards in the previous 24 months, I’d say you have good chances of getting approved for both.

@PJ – Sorry for the delay here! We’ll always try to answer your questions. Thank you so much for reading!

@oh – Thank you for adding that!

beware about adding AU to your account, or being added as an AU. Per chase rep I spoke to, chase is counting the cards where i am an AU as “applications” against me. that is not worth the 5k bonus points at all.

I have the same question…but am finding more and more questions aren’t getting answered in this section.

Any idea of success rate when applying for Sapphire Preferred and Freedom at the same time? After 5/24 that is.
