With all the holiday promotions behind us, Hilton is kicking off the new year with a promotion they are calling Points Unlimited. And it can be fairly good deal with very few restrictions.
The promotion runs from January 4 through May 5, 2019, and you can earn a bonus of 2,000 Hilton points per stay PLUS another bonus of 10,000 Hilton points for every 5 stays you complete or 10 nights, whichever comes first.
If you have lots of travel planned for the beginning of the year, the good news is that there is no limit to how many points you can earn during this promotion. You continue to earn 2,000 bonus points per stay (even for a 1-night stay) and there is no limit to the number of 10,000-point bonuses you can earn.
If you’ve got any Hilton stays coming up this year you should apply for an AMEX Hilton credit card because they all come with complimentary Hilton elite status (the elite status level varies depending on the card). And if you have even the lowest tier elite status, you can take advantage of Hilton’s 5th night free on award stays.

Good deal or not: This is a pretty good Hilton promotion. I like that there is no minimum night requirement, so even if you spend just 1 night at Hilton during the promotion dates, you could earn bonus points for your stay (2,000 points for 1 stay). Folks who stay more often can earn significantly more points, especially as they hit those 10,000 bonus point tiers.
Even award nights will count as qualifying stays towards this promotion. So you could look at the bonus points as a points rebate on award stays.
Hilton doesn’t have an official award chart, but you can book the cheapest hotels for 5,000 to 10,000 points (although most of these are overseas). But let’s say you want to stay at a Hampton Inn hotel in the US that is just 10,000 Hilton points a night. With this promotion it would only cost you 8,000 Hilton points per 1-night stay if you include the 2,000-point per stay bonus. On longer stays the discount doesn’t add up to as much.
But if you had 5 1-nights stays you could earn 20,000 bonus points (2,000 Hilton points per night X 5 nights + 10,000 Hilton point bonus for 5 stays). This works out to 4,000 Hilton points per night, which would be amazing if you are only paying 5,000 to 10,000 points to start with!
You could also combine this with the 5th-night free perk for Hilton Elite members. Unfortunately, you would need to complete 2 stays of 5 nights (or 1 stay of 10 nights) each to reach the 10,000 point bonus. Since your 5-night award stay will count as only 1 stay, it earns just 2,000 bonus points for the whole stay, making it less valuable than 5 stays of 1 night each.
I recommend following the promotion link and registering now so you don’t forget. It works worldwide, so even if you end up spending just a few nights at Hilton over the course of the promotion dates, you would still earn a few thousand bonus points. This deal isn’t worth a mattress run unless you get near the end of the promotion and have completed 4 stays, then it might be worth a 1-night stay to reach the 10,000 point bonus and another 2,000 points.
