On Saturday, September 28, 2013, you can spend the day visiting over 1,400 participating museums, botanical gardens, art galleries, and cultural centers in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Panama.

All for free!

Thanks to Smithsonian Magazine’s ninth annual Museum Day Live!, you and a guest enjoy free entry to many participating museums, botanical gardens, art galleries, and cultural centers.

You can search for participating museums on the Find a Museum page.

Emily and I visited the Harry Truman memorial library for free during a previous Museum Day!

Just download a ticket, valid for 2 people, for your free admission.  The terms say “One ticket per household, for two people.

But you could download additional tickets with a different email address or work address.

Bottom Line

Museum tickets are often expensive, so this is a good way to save on the price of 2 museum tickets.

Even if you aren’t traveling, you can use these free tickets to visit a museum in your city for free!

Thanks for posting this. My family and I like to visit museums occasionally and it results in a fun, yet relaxing day..

Also I would like to mention that Bank of America card holders have the benefit of visiting certain museums the first weekend of every month. The program is called Museums on Us.

This is great! Anniversary is this weekend so we’ll be hitting up 1 or 2 of these museums. Thanks for the heads up.

As an FYI, the Smithsonian National Zoological Park is always free, as are the Smithsonian Museums around the National Mall in DC.
