IHG is offering an elite status trial and challenge for corporate travelers. But I was able to easily register with my personal IHG account. This is a very similar deal to Hyatt’s elite status promotion. Once you register, you’ll get top-tier IHG Spire elite status for 90 days with the ability to extend it (through 2019) by staying 10 nights at an IHG hotel during that timeframe. The normal requirement is 75 nights!
You’re supposed to register with an eligible company email address, but the terms aren’t clear which companies qualify. So it’s worth seeing if you can register, which you have to do by October 31, 2018.
But if you’re looking for any easy surefire way to get IHG Platinum status (it’s almost as good as Spire status), and gobs of points, then you should apply for the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. It comes with automatic IHG Platinum status and an 80,000 IHG point bonus after meeting the minimum spending requirements!
IHG Spire status gets you the same benefits as the lower tier levels, like Platinum elite status. But one perk that sets Spire status apart, is that when you earn it, you get to choose between gifting IHG Platinum status to someone else or getting 25,000 bonus IHG points!
I’d take the 25,000 IHG points every time!
That said, there’s a catch to earning the 25,000 bonus IHG points through this promotion. The terms specifically state you won’t earn the 25,000 bonus points until “after completion of the required stays.” So you’ll have to complete the challenge (stay 10 nights within 90 days of registration) to earn the bonus. If you are only able to stay 5 nights during the 90 days, you’ll still get IHG Platinum status through 2019.
If you’ve already got some IHG stays coming up, this is a nice extra bonus. Just keep in mind that the terms say you must book your stays “using the corresponding IHG corporate travel booking codes…with a minimum qualifying rate of $35.” I don’t know if they’ll enforce this or not, but be aware that if you register and stay 10 nights there is a chance you won’t earn the Spire extension if you didn’t book with a corporate code.
I was able to register for this promotion just by signing into my current IHG account, which is associated with my personal email. I’ve got a few IHG nights planned, but I doubt I’ll make the 10 nights required for the bonus.
You can register for the promotion here.
