Were You Targeted to Get Free American Airlines Platinum Elite Status?

Some members of American Airlines’ loyalty program have been targeted to receive free American Airlines Platinum elite status through December 16, 2016.

And, you can keep your elite status through January 31, 2018, by earning 12,500 EQMs (elite qualifying miles) by December 16, 2016.

And some offers include earning 25,000 bonus American Airlines miles too!

  • 60% mileage bonus on eligible flights
  • Complimentary Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats
  • Priority check-in, security, and boarding
  • 2 free checked bags

So check your email to see if you got an offer!

How Do You Earn Elite Qualifying Miles?

If you want to keep your elite status through early 2018, you’ll need to earn 12,500 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) by December 16, 2016.

The number of Elite Qualifying Miles you’ll earn for a flight depends on whether you’re flying First Class, Business Class, or coach.  You’ll earn between 1 EQM and 3 EQMs per mile flown.

When you fly an American Airlines partner like Alaska Airlines, you’ll earn fewer Elite Qualifying Miles per mile flown.

Check here for the full details about how many elite qualifying miles you’ll earn for flights on American Airlines and their partners.

What If You Were NOT Targeted?

With cards like the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®, Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard®, or CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Mastercard®, you can still get valuable benefits.  Like priority or Group 1 boarding and 1 free checked bag on domestic flights.

The Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage and American Airlines Business AAdvantage card are currently offering 50,000 American Airlines bonus miles after meeting minimum spending requirements.

And with the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite, you can earn 50,000 American Airlines bonus miles after spending $5,000 in the first three months of account opening.

Check out the “Hot Deals!” section of Million Mile Secrets for details!  And here’s my guide on how to redeem American Airlines miles.

I would be interested if I got the offer with 25,000 bonus miles. The problem I see is that Platinum status today is not even as valuable as gold status of 2 years back with the limited earning and bonus miles from flights. Upgrades today as Platinum are as likely as golds a couple of years ago.

Were invites sent by email or snail mail? I have two months of mail to go through to look for it if the latter …

What if you are not sure if you have been targeted because you may have deleted the email. Is there somewhere else to find out if you were?
