It’s officially tax season!  And TurboTax is giving folks an incentive to use their software.

Via Reddit, you’ll receive 1,000 Southwest points when you file your tax return with TurboTax through the Southwest Shopping portal!

Nothing in This World Is Certain but Death and 1,000 Bonus Southwest Points! 😉

I’ll give you the details of this deal.

Filing Taxes With TurboTax?  Don’t Forget to Claim Your Free 1,000 Southwest Points

Link:   File With TurboTax and Earn 1,000 Southwest Points

TurboTax has partnered with Southwest to give folks 1,000 bonus Southwest points for filing taxes through TurboTax.  Southwest points are worth 1.25 to 1.43 cents each.  So 1,000 points are worth ~$12 to ~$14 towards Southwest flights.

Here are the details:

  • You must file a federal tax return before April 18, 2017 to qualify
  • Filing federal taxes with TurboTax CDs, downloaded products, or in-app purchases, are not eligible for a bonus
  • Only 1 bonus per Southwest account
  • Bonus points will NOT count towards elite status or the Southwest Companion Pass

The Southwest points should deposit into your account within 8 weeks of filing.  You can read the full terms and conditions here.

If you’re planning to use TurboTax to file your taxes, this is a nice opportunity to earn bonus Southwest points for something you’d do anyway.  But depending on your situation, there are cheaper ways to file your taxes.  So it may not be worth filing with TurboTax JUST for the bonus Southwest points.

Note:   Some folks report never receiving their bonus Southwest points after TurboTax had a similar promotion last year.  So you may need to follow-up with Southwest to make sure you get your points!

Bottom Line

TurboTax wants your business!  They’re offering 1,000 Southwest points (worth ~$12 to ~$14 in Southwest flights) to folks who file taxes with their software through the Southwest online shopping portal.

Just place your TurboTax order through the Southwest shopping portal and you’ll have 1,000 extra Southwest points in your account within 8 weeks of filing!

If you planned to use TurboTax anyway, this is a great deal!  But if you planned to use less expensive software, it’s NOT worth switching to TurboTax for the Southwest points.

I just did TurboTax and my points posted in 2 days. I was shocked at how fast it was.

I’ve participated in this promotion for the past 2 years and both times, my points were not deposited as they were supposed to be. I had to spend additional time writing emails and calling RR to get the points deposited. The points did eventually deposit, however only after several months of completing my tax return. This is a pitifully managed promotion in my opinion and is a real hassle just to earn 1000 RR points.
