Credit card points systems and hotel loyalty programs are much less complicated than most folks think. And investing a little time to learn how they work can have a huge pay off!
Just look at my mom. She’s retired and loves to travel. Over the past few years, she’s taken advantage of several of the best travel credit card offers. And with a little help from our award booking guides, she’s used points to get tens of thousands worth of free travel, including luxurious First Class flights and free stays at 5-star hotels.
Like many in the miles & points hobby, she loves earning flexible Chase Ultimate Rewards points with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Because she can transfer points directly to airline and hotel partners, including Hyatt, Southwest, and United Airlines. This is how she recently got a 4-night, $2,000 hotel stay in Boston, for $0 out-of-pocket!
Transferring Chase Points to Hyatt Is an Easy Way to Get Big Travel!
If you haven’t transferred Chase Ultimate Rewards points before, you should check out our step-by-step video guide to transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to airline and hotel partners!
The process is just about as straightforward as moving money from your checking to savings account. Transferring Chase points to your airline or hotel account typically occurs instantly. So you don’t have to stress about waiting for your points to appear to book award travel.
One reason many people love Hyatt is because they have a no “blackout date” policy when it comes to using points for free nights. As long as a standard room is available for sale, you can book it using points! This isn’t the case at other Chase hotel transfer partners.
Plus, the Hyatt award chart usually offers better deals compared to other Chase hotel transfer partners. For example, you’ll pay 5,000 to 30,000 Hyatt points for a Hyatt award night.
Here’s a real-life example. My mom traveled to Boston recently. Nightly room rates at different hotels in the area were really expensive.
For example, a standard room at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge was $487 per night plus taxes & fees, which brought the cost of a 4-night stay to over $2,000. Instead, my mom transferred Chase Ultimate Rewards points to her Hyatt account to book the same exact stay without having to pay a dime. Award nights at the hotel cost 15,000 Hyatt points per night, so she used 60,000 points total.
With this redemption, she got ~3.3 cents per point worth of value out of her Chase Ultimate Rewards points (~$2,000 hotel stay / 60,000 points). That’s a much better value than you’d get redeeming points for cash back!
