Via One Mile at a Time, IHG is giving folks a 100% bonus when buying 5,000+ IHG points through September 29, 2017.  This promotion could save you even more than the Points & Cash trick!

100% Bonus When Buying IHG Points

Until 11:59 pm on September 29, 2017, you’ll earn a 100% bonus when you buy 5,000+ IHG points.

Points must be purchased in 1,000-point increments, and there’s a limit of 60,000 purchased IHG points per calendar year.  Only online points purchases are eligible (NOT over the phone).

IHG normally sells points for 1.15 to 1.35 cents each.  Or if you’re comfortable with it, you can buy points for as little as 0.6 cents each with the IHG Points & Cash trick.

But with this promotion, you can pay even less (just ~0.575 cents per point)!

Is This a Good Deal?

Yes!  This is a great bonus if you need a few more IHG points to top-off your account for an award stay.  It could even save you lots at regular IHG hotels!  I tend to find the biggest savings at the highest category hotels and the lowest category hotels.

For example, a night at the category 1 Candlewood Suites Jacksonville East Merril Road in Florida costs $110+or 10,000 IHG points.

With this 100% bonus, you could buy 10,000 IHG points for $67.50, and save $42.50 per night!  ($110 per night – $67.50 cost of points per night award nights).

Or you could use your points for IHG PointBreaks hotels, where you can get rooms for ~$29 per night if you purchase points with this deal.

A quick way to earn IHG points is to sign-up for the Chase IHG card.  It currently comes with an increased sign-up bonus of 80,000 IHG points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.  The $49 annual fee is waived the first year.

This is one of the few cards NOT restricted by Chase’s application rules.

Bottom Line

Through September 29, 2017, you can buy 5,000+ IHG points and earn a 100% bonus, up to a maximum of 60,000 purchased points per year.

This is a good deal for folks who need to top-off their account for an award.  But it can also be a good way to stay at certain IHG hotels at a discount!  Do the math and see if this deal makes your upcoming travel cheaper.
