There’s an easy way to earn lots of points with Choice Hotels this spring.

Until April 22, 2015, you’ll earn 8,000 points when you stay twice at Choice Hotels with their “Choose Choice Twice, Get a Night at No Price” promotion.

Although they say you’ll get a free night, it’s really 8,000 Choice Hotel points – which is enough for an award night at over 1,500 lower-category Choice Hotels.  But you can use the points however you want!

This could be a very good deal for folks who stay at Choice Hotels often, or can use the points for more expensive hotels in Europe.  Or if you’re trying to earn the Southwest Companion Pass!

To earn 8,000 points after every 2 stays with Choice Hotels, sign-up for the promotion and stay at any Choice Hotel worldwide until April 22, 2015.  You have to register before your 1st check-out for the stay to count.

After every 2nd stay, you’ll get 5,000 to 8,000 points (depending on the number of base points you earned from the booking).  There’s NO limit to the number of points you can earn!

Choice Hotels include:

Choice Hotels Include Both Budget-Friendly Chains and Higher-End Hotels

To earn the bonus points, you must be a US or Canadian resident.  A stay is defined as:

  • 1 or more consecutive nights at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, or Ascend Collection hotels
  • 2 or more consecutive nights at Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Suburban Extended Stay, or MainStay Suites hotels (so you’ll need 4 nights total to earn 8,000 points)

Only rooms booked online through the Choice Hotels website, over the phone at 800-424-6423, or through their Apple or Android mobile apps are eligible to earn bonus points.

You Can Book Stays Online, With Choice Hotels Reservations, or Through Their Mobile App

However, if you have Diamond or Platinum elite status, you can book directly with the hotel (in-person or over the phone) and the stay WILL count.

Reservations made through online travel agencies, like Expedia and Orbitz, are NOT eligible for the promotion.

Note:   Be sure the earning preferences on your Choice Privileges account are set to points and NOT miles, otherwise you won’t earn the bonus points.

Is This Promotion Worth It?

It depends on your travel style, and how you like to use Choice Hotel points!

Some folks shy away from Choice Hotels because they perceive them to be a budget chain.  It’s true that many of their locations are geared toward more frugal travelers, and some of their hotels (like Econo Lodge or Rodeway Inn) aren’t very fancy.

That said, Choice Hotels are a great option for folks who travel to smaller cities and towns.  In those areas, you won’t always find chains like Hyatt, Club Carlson, Marriott, or Starwood.  But you can almost always find a Choice hotel.

And many Choice Hotels are family-friendly.  Hotels like Comfort Inn and Quality Inn often have large rooms, indoor pools, in-room refrigerators and microwaves, and free breakfast (no elite status needed!).

Choice Hotel Rooms Can Be Very Spacious and Comfortable for Families

Award nights at Choice Hotels range from 6,000 to 35,000 points per night (more at some hotels in Australasia).

I wouldn’t usually use Choice Hotel points for stays at lower-category hotels.  That’s because you can normally get paid nights cheaply.

A better use of Choice Hotel points is for expensive hotels in Europe, especially Scandinavia.  You can often find moderately priced award nights that would otherwise cost hundreds of dollars.

Using Choice Hotel Points at European Hotels Can Be a Very Good Value

And folks who need extra points toward the Southwest Companion Pass could transfer Choice Hotel points to Southwest.  You’ll get 1,800 Southwest points for every 6,000 Choice Hotel points you transfer.

Note:  There are other ways to cheaply earn Choice Hotel points, like through buy points promotions or with the Points Plus Cash trick.

That said, if you’re traveling to bigger cities, you might do better with other current hotel promotions.  Especially if your stays are more than 2 nights, or if you have lots of paid nights coming up.

For example, you could earn:

As always, consider your travel plans and how you’d use the points to see which deal is best for you.

And don’t forget to book with a credit card that earns bonus miles and points for hotel stays, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Ink Plus.

Bottom Line

You can earn 8,000 points (enough for a free night at a lower tier hotel) after every 2 stays at Choice Hotels through April 22, 2015.  But you can use the points for any award you want!

Depending on the chain, a stay could be 1 or 2 consecutive nights.  This promotion could be a good option for folks who travel to smaller towns and cities, for families, or if you’re planning a trip to Europe (where you can get award nights at expensive hotels for relatively few points).

Folks working toward earning the Southwest Companion Pass might also consider this deal, because you can transfer Choice Hotel points to Southwest and they’ll count toward the Companion Pass!

what the name of the app i can get in my phone

One con about these Choice promos… In the past, I’ve been given 8k points TOTAL, i.e. if I earned 1600 base points for the 2 stays, the bonus would be 6400 points.
