Earning 2,500 Starwood points by adding an authorized user to your AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest personal card is an easy way to earn extra points. It doesn’t cost anything to add a user to your account and there’s no spending requirement to earn the bonus points!
But before you add someone, make sure it’s someone you trust! That’s because any charges on additional accounts are ultimately your responsibility.
You’ll also want to consider the new account and payment history will appear on the authorized user’s credit report.
Just remember, Chase now has stricter approval rules. So if you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards from any bank (excluding certain business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.
If your authorized user is not planning on getting any new Chase cards, then becoming an authorized user shouldn’t matter. But, if he or she would like to apply for any Chase cards in the near future, they might want to hold off on becoming an authorized user.
