Via One Mile at a Time, folks can get a 100% bonus when buying United Airlines miles through December 31, 2017.

Depending on your situation, this could save you a LOT of money on flights.  I’ll explain.

Link:   United Airlines Bonus Miles Promotion

Through December 31, 2017, you’ll earn up to a 100% bonus when you buy United Airlines miles.  But you’ll have to purchase 5,000+ miles to trigger the promotion.

The more miles you buy, the bigger the bonus.  And the cheaper the miles become.

Here’s what you’ll earn:

  • Buy 5,000 to 19,000 United Airlines miles – Get a 25% bonus
  • Buy 20,000 to 39,000 United Airlines miles – Get a 40% bonus
  • Buy 40,000 to 69,000 United Airlines miles – Get a 75% bonus
  • Buy 70,000 to 75,000 United Airlines miles – Get a 100% bonus

So if you buy 5,000 United Airlines miles you’ll get a 25% bonus and end up with 6,250 miles (5,000 + 25% bonus = 6,250 miles).  You’ll pay ~$188 for the miles, which ends up being ~3 cents per mile (~$188 / 6,250 miles).

And if you buy 75,000 United Airlines miles to earn the 100% bonus, you’ll end up with 150,000 miles (75,000 + 100% bonus = 150,000 miles).  And you’ll end up paying ~$2,821 for the miles, or ~1.88 cents per mile (~$2,821 / 150,000 miles).

Remember, you can only purchase 150,000 United Airlines miles per year.  And the bonus miles you’ll buy through this promotion count towards that limit.

Is This a Good Deal?

United Airlines doesn’t usually sell miles with more than a 100% bonus.  So if you have an award in mind that makes sense, this would be a good time to buy miles.

As always, do the math first to make sure it’s a good deal for you.

If You Buy United Airlines Miles, You Could Save on a Trip to Paris

This is especially good for folks who want to fly Business Class!  Because buying miles with this promotion and booking a saver level Business Class award is a good way to “buy” fancy seats at a big discount.

Round-trip Business Class tickets to Europe can easily cost $4,000, depending on your route.  With this promotion, you could pay ~$2,634, and receive 140,000 United Airlines miles.  That’s much more than enough for a round-trip Business Class saver award seat on United Airlines from the US to Europe.

United Airlines miles are easy to use.  But I still always recommend finding an award seat you want before buying miles.

Bottom Line

Through December 31, 2017, you can purchase United Airlines miles with up to a 100% bonus.  It’s a tiered bonus, so you’ll have to buy at least 70,000 United Airlines miles to earn the maximum 100% bonus.

If you want to top off your account, or if you have a specific award in mind, this could be a good deal for your situation.  I always recommend doing the math first to make sure it makes sense for you.
