Emily:  I’ll never forget the first time I traveled outside the US, and went to a small, poor town in Mexico with an organization similar to Habitat for Humanity.  Entire families lived in shacks the size of a small bedroom and were very poor, but all of them were so kind and generous, despite not having much.

I believe in the power of education because it brought my mom out of poverty and gave her the ability to achieve a middle class life.  Providing kids an education will greatly help their future, their families’ future, and the communities’ future.

I previously wrote about our efforts to raise money to help Casa de Orientación y Desarrollo Real (CODR) provide school supplies to children in the Dominican Republic.

So far $435 has been raised!  Thanks to everyone who has donated!

CODR’s goal is to reach $10,000, so they can help 500 children attend school with all the tools they need.  To help out we will match your donation up to $2,000!

Volunteering at CODR

CODR provides housing for women, so they can receive a college education in a safe and nurturing environment.  They also offer counseling and leadership training.  As part of their leadership training they participate in programs that give back to their communities, such as this fundraiser for school supplies for kids.

Bottom Line

As many schools started this week in the US, we tend to forget that there are a lot of kids here and in the places we travel that don’t have all the basic tools they need to begin the school year.

CODR wants to provide 500 children in the Dominican Republic with school supplies and I hope you will consider donating to this cause!

To help, we will match your donation (up to $2,000).

So donate for a good cause.

Or donate because you don’t like us sharing the secrets and want to see us pay!
