Delta has now announced their own shopping portal bonus for the early holiday shopping season.  This follows shopping portal promotions from the other major US airlines.  And means you can choose your preferred airline to earn bonus points with because the offers are similar.

These are easy bonus points to earn just for clicking through the Delta shopping portal first.  If you’ve never used a shopping portal before, check out our guide to everything you need to know about shopping portals.

One of the advantages of airline shopping portals is you can use any credit card to make your purchase.  So you could use a card like the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card and earn valuable Chase Ultimate Rewards points in addition to your bonus Delta miles!

Earn up to 1,000 Delta Miles With This Early Holiday Shopping Promotion From Delta

Earn up to 1,000 Delta Bonus Miles

End date:   November 18, 2018, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time

Promo dates:   November 5 to November 18, 2018

Terms & restrictions:   Earn up to 1,000 Delta miles as a one-time bonus in additional to the normal miles you earn with the Delta shopping portal.  You’ll earn the bonus based on your total qualifying purchases during the promotion period.  Taxes, shipping, handling, returns, cancellations, or gift card purchases, are not included.  Allow 10 weeks after the promotion to receive the bonus points.

Bonus offer tiers:

  • Tier 1:   Earn 500 bonus miles after spending $150
  • Tier 2:   Earn 1,000 bonus miles after spending $300

Good deal or not:   These bonuses are decent if you already plan on making a purchase at one of the approved shops.  But I wouldn’t go out of my way to earn these unless I already was planning on making a purchase that would qualify.

Delta’s shopping bonus caps out at just 1,000 bonus miles which is the lowest across the major airline shopping portal promotions.  After spending $300 you earn 1,000 bonus miles which equates to less than 1/3 of a mile per $1 spend.  This is very low.

However, you still will earn your standard base shopping points, which can range from 1 to 4 miles per $1 spent at most shops.  But these are available year-round.  You can find shopping deals from many online brand-name stores including The North Face, Blue Apron, Lord + Taylor, Staples and hundreds more.

And don’t forget to earn even more miles or points by using one of the best credit cards for holiday shopping!

I am very confused by the math here. 1000 bonus miles for $300 spending = “less than 1/3 of a mile per $1”? What?!
