Via One Mile at a Time, Starbucks is teaming up with Chase to release a co-branded credit card next month.
I always appreciate more credit card options. But I don’t have high expectations for this card. Hopefully we’ll be surprised!
Here is what we know right now.
Starbucks Introducing a Co-branded Credit Card
Some time in February 2018, Chase will likely introduce a Starbucks co-branded credit card.
Starbucks has hinted that the card will earn rewards for more than just Starbucks purchases. So there’s a possibility we’ll see a card similar to the Barclaycard Uber Visa Card, which earns 4% cash back on dining purchases and 3% cash back on hotels and airfare.
Is This a Good Deal?
Having another way to earn cash back or free drinks at Starbucks might be enticing for some folks. But this card will be issued by Chase, so it may be affected by Chase’s tough approval rules.
I would NOT recommend this card for newbies! Even though we don’t know what the sign-up bonus will be, I have a hard time seeing it coming anywhere close to Chase’s other great welcome bonuses.
There probably aren’t a lot of miles & points collectors that will find this card worthwhile. Plus, there are already a bunch of great cards for earning miles & points at Starbucks and other restaurants, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, which earns 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on dining purchases.
Bottom Line
Starbucks will be introducing a new Chase co-branded credit card very soon. We don’t have any details of the card yet, but I have a hunch it won’t be worthwhile for folks in the miles & points hobby, particularly for newbies.
And because it’s a Chase card, there’s a chance it will be affected by the Chase “5/24” rule. So folks with a lot of credit cards might not even qualify for it.
