Scott: Winter is coming. And the best-ever Citi ThankYou® Premier Card offer is going.
I have this credit card. And I admit, I don’t try to squeeze every last bit of value out of its Citi ThankYou points by transferring to partner airlines. With these particular points I like to go for what’s convenient. With my Citi ThankYou points I book the fights I want on the dates I want.
The intro bonus is 60,000 Citi ThankYou points. These are worth $750 in the Citi ThankYou travel portal.
The portal is simple to use. As I suggested in the headline, if you’ve figured out how to use travel sites like Expedia or Travelocity or Orbitz, the Citi ThankYou portal is basically the same thing. And yes, I’ve found the prices in the portal (at least for flights) to be the same as on other sites.
Hotels and rental car prices are also pretty similar to what you’ll find on other sites but you can shop around if you want to be sure.
So why am I talking about winter travel? Because if you’re approved now (sorry to sound urgent, but Citi says they’re pulling this offer on October 11, 2018) you’ll have your 60,000 points ($750 for flights, hotels, etc.) after you meet the spending requirement of $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. The sooner you hit that mark, the sooner you get your points.
But even if you take the full 3 months, you should have your bonus this winter. And you can jet for free to the Caribbean or Hawaii or Florida to escape the cold. Or hit the ski slopes instead!
It’s kind of a no-brainer to get this card while the offer is so hot because the annual fee is $0 in year 1 with the card. Keeping your card membership is $95 starting in year two. And you might very well find it a good idea to keep the card because you earn 3 Citi ThankYou points per $1 spent on travel. That includes gas stations, airfare, hotels, car rental agencies, parking, tolls, and more.
The Price Protection on Citi Cards (called Price Rewind) is also pretty sweet. Team member Harlan crushes it with this perk. In total, you can save up to $1,000 per calendar year with it.
I’ve used the points I’ve earned with my Citi ThankYou Premier to fly to Europe. It was super easy to book and I didn’t have to fuss with blackout dates or anything. I found the flight I wanted on the day I wanted and boom — booked and done.
