Via Reddit, you’ll earn a 10% bonus when you transfer Citi ThankYou points to Etihad through July 5, 2017.
This is a nice little bonus if you would have moved points to Etihad anyway. But I wouldn’t transfer points unless you have a definite plan for the miles! Because Etihad miles expire 3 years from the date you earn them.
And Etihad miles can be incredibly valuable for certain flights.
I’ll help you decide if transferring points to Etihad is a good idea!
Transfer Citi ThankYou points to Etihad
Through July 5, 2017, you’ll get a 10% bonus when you transfer Citi ThankYou points to Etihad. While that isn’t a huge bonus, it’s a nice surprise for folks planning to transfer ThankYou points to Etihad.
Your points transfer must be completed by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on July 5, 2017. Citi says ThankYou Points can take up to 14 days to transfer. But in my experience, they transfer in less than a week. That said, I’d transfer my points early just to be safe!
Don’t move points just to take advantage of the bonus! Etihad miles expire 3 years after you earn them, and you can’t reset the clock by having activity in your account, like other airlines.
Use Etihad Miles for Cheap Flights on Partner Airlines
Because Etihad has 27 airline partners, there’s lots of opportunity to get Big Travel with Etihad miles.
For example, you can book a round-trip award flight from New York to Brussels on Brussels Airlines for:
- 54,000 Etihad miles in coach (6,000 miles less than Delta and United Airlines)
- 88,000 Etihad miles in Business Class (52,000 miles less than Delta and United Airlines)
Check out my post on how to save miles by using Etihad miles to book American Airlines award flights.
To book Etihad award seats on partner airlines, call Etihad at 877-690-0767. Just remember, extra cheap award seats can be very limited. But here’s my step-by-step guide to finding and booking award seats using Etihad miles.
And if you need more Citi ThankYou points, you can apply for the:
- Citi ThankYou Premier Card – 30,000 Citi ThankYou points after meeting minimum spending requirements
- Citi Prestige Card – 40,000 Citi ThankYou points after meeting minimum spending requirements
You’ll get 10% more miles when you transfer Citi ThankYou points to Etihad through July 5, 2017.
This isn’t a huge bonus, and I wouldn’t take advantage of it unless you have definite plans to use Etihad miles. Because Etihad miles expire 3 years after you earn them.
