Today, Citi is announcing big changes to its flagship ThankYou cards that will make spending on them even more rewarding. Citi Prestige® Card and Citi Premier® Card cardholders will earn more bonus points on online, grocery and dining purchases — where much of consumer spending is centered during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Citi has already announced other temporary benefits to some of their cards, and these follow recent major benefit enhancements from Chase and American Express.
Citi Prestige’s temporary bonus categories
The Citi Prestige card will now earn 5x points on select online purchases, up to 7,500 points, through August 31, 2020. You’ll need to spend $1,500 to max out this offer and have a Prestige account open before May 22, 2020, to be eligible. The card will earn 5x points on retailer website orders, online grocery orders and online drugstore orders. This shouldn’t be all too hard to max out during this time, and keep in mind that many of these retailers sell gift-cards to third-party merchants like Amazon, Home Depot and Airbnb.
This is in addition to the 5x points you earn on airfare and dining. Earning 5x ThankYou points is equivalent to an 8.5% return on spend, based on our valuation of Citi ThankYou points. Remember that you can use ThankYou points for some pretty amazing award flights, like transferring to Turkish Airlines and redeeming just 7,500 miles for a flight to Hawaii on United.
The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
New Citi Premier bonus categories
Citi has announced that the new bonus categories for the Citi Premier it previously said would be launching on August 23 have launched as of June 2. You will now earn:
- 3x ThankYou points on supermarket purchases (previously 1x)
- 3x ThankYou points on dining and takeout purchases (previously 2x)
This makes the Citi Premier card one of the best cards for grocery and dining purchases. Earning 3x ThankYou points is equivalent to a 5.1% return on spend, based on our valuation of Citi ThankYou points.
These benefits are only available to those who had an open Premier account before May 22, 2020.
