Choice Hotels has a couple of new promotions that could be a nice way to earn some extra airline miles.  Through the end of the year you can earn 1,250 Air Canada Aeroplan miles or 1,000 American Airlines miles for each stay with Choice Hotels.  These offers are valid until December 31, 2018.

Aeroplan is Air Canada’s frequent flyer program, which offers really great deals on flights between the US and Europe.  These miles can be redeemed on Star Alliance airlines, making them extremely flexible even if you don’t fly Air Canada.  And if you want to learn all the tips and trick to using American Airlines miles, then check out our complete guide to American Airlines.

When you stay with Choice Hotels, you can choose to earn rewards for your stay in airline miles or in Choice points.  The normal earning rate for airline miles is a flat 250 miles per stay, and if you earn airline miles, you won’t earn Choice points.

Earn Bonus Airline Miles At Choice Hotels

End date:   December 31, 2018

Promotion dates:    October 1 to December 31, 2018

Important terms & restrictions:

  • Earn 1,250 Aeroplan miles or 1,000 American Airlines miles per stay at Choice Hotels
  • A stay is defined as any number of consecutive nights at a single hotel, regardless of the number of check-ins or check-outs
  • Members should provide their Aeroplan or American Airlines number during check-in at the hotel
  • Alternatively you can select Aeroplan or American Airlines miles as your default earning method online in the settings of your Choice account
  • The hotel guest name and the Airline member’s name must match
  • The miles will be credited to your account within 6-8 weeks after your stay
  • Reservations made through third-party online retailers, travel agents, wholesalers, group tours, or under employee discounts are not eligible
  • Not valid for stays in hotel properties located in Japan, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden

Good deal or not:   This can be a good deal depending on the length of your stay.  Remember that by choosing to earn airline miles, you are giving up any Choice points you might have otherwise earned.  The airlines miles bonus is a flat rate, regardless on the length of your stay.  But you’ll earn Choice points based on how much you spend for the stay.

So if you have a lot of inexpensive 1-night stays planned, this can be an excellent deal!  But for longer stays, you might want to consider earning Choice points.

Good deal or not:   Yes this is a good deal, if you’re interested in collecting Choice points, and were already looking for a vacation rental to take the family to this winter.

Many other vacation rental sites don’t offer points or rewards programs, so this is a cool way to earn points for your stay.  The bonus of 10,000 points is nice because it is enough for a free night at quite a few Choice Hotels (points vary by dates and locations).  Or if you prefer, you can use those points towards a future stay at a vacation rental through Choice Vacation Rentals, which also accepts Choice Hotel points.

Choice Hotels locations typically aren’t the nicest in the US, but there are some places overseas where it can be a great deal, like Norway or Japan.  Just remember you can only book Choice Hotels award nights 100 days in advance, which isn’t nearly as far in advance as other brands.
