Many people want to fly home for the holidays, but just can’t afford it. Flights average ~$509 for round-trip domestic tickets. That’s a lot of money!
Fortunately, I have not had to pay for a domestic flight in years thanks to credit card rewards points.
Southwest is one of my favorite airlines because I can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points, which are easy to collect. Plus, I get 2 free checked bags, which is perfect for hauling extra gifts for the holidays!
Use Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for Cheap ~$11 Flights on Southwest!
Recently, I used Southwest points to fly from Austin, Texas, to Detroit, Michigan, and the cost was only ~$11! The points price was 19,000 Southwest points. To put that in perspective, you can earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after meeting minimum spending requirements with the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card, which is enough for ~4 nearly FREE round-trip flights when you transfer your points to Southwest.
If that seems like a lot, be sure to check out our guide to meeting minimum spending requirements. Some of my favorite ideas as pre-paying internet and phone bills, and shopping early for holiday gifts.
