My partner and I have been dreaming about another family vacation, and are thinking about taking a flight to Mexico to stay in an all-inclusive resort.  I found round-trip flights to Mexico for just ~12,000 Southwest points per person.  Or you can transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest Airlines to book these flights.

Using the Southwest Companion Pass will save us even more money.  That’s because you can add a designated travel companion to your ticket without using any additional points!  All you have to do is pay the taxes and fees, which is usually ~$11 per person.  And you can add your companion to flights paid for with points OR to flights paid with cash!

Use Chase Ultimate Rewards Points Towards 2-for-1 Flights to Popular Vacation Spots

I found flights to Cancun, Mexico, for just 12,168 Southwest points.  Southwest Airlines also flies to Aruba, Belize, Cuba, the Grand Cayman Islands, and lots of other places.  You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest for free.  It’s really easy to transfer points, and I do it all the time.  If you have the Southwest Companion Pass like I do, you can add a designated travel companion without using ANY extra points.

You do have to pay the required taxes and fees, and for some international destinations, these fees can add up.  For the flights I found from Austin, Texas, to Cancun, Mexico, taxes and fees added up to $78 per ticket.  These tickets would otherwise cost ~$300 per person.  Be sure to do the math to make sure it makes sense for you.  For me, transferring my Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest makes sense, because I like saving my cash.  And having the Southwest Companion Pass makes all my Southwest flights essentially half off!

If I do end up going to Cancun, I’d love to stay at the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun.  Rooms are going ~$600 per night, but you can use 25,000 Hyatt points (or Chase Ultimate Rewards points that you transfer to Hyatt for free!).  To put that into perspective, you can get 3 nights free with the sign-up bonus earned from just 1 credit card.  You can earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

I just came from Cancun with JetBlue points 3 tickets rt from Orlando fl I paid $ 236

What city are you flying from and to for this mexico trip?

My family of four is taking a similar trip in April. We are flying from San Diego to Cancun, but will be staying in Playa Del Carmen for 6 nights. The flights were free using Southwest points and one companion pass (taxes were about $79 each. We also had another companion pass, but it expired 12/31/18). We also had a bunch of Wyndham points to use and that is the main reason we took the trip. We accumulated enough for 13 free nights at any of their hotels so we picked the Viva Wyndham Azteca all-inclusive, which goes for around $200-300 per night if you pay cash. I also encouraged my mom early last year to get the Southwest companion pass which she did so she and my sister are going as well from Virginia for free. They just had to pay airfare taxes and I offered them the hotel nights for free with my points.

Woohoo! Awesome! Thank you for sharing this Success story!
