Most banks are trying to upgrade and modify the benefits of their travel credit cards during the pandemic to keep quarantined cardholders happy. But today a transportation company has indirectly boosted the value of a top travel credit card.
Currently, Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders receive a complimentary Lyft Pink Membership through March 2022. Lyft Pink offers 15% off Lyft rides, three free Lyft bike and scooter rides every month, relaxed cancellation fees and other benefits. However, Lyft has just seriously upgraded Lyft Pink.
Lyft Pink now comes with Grubhub+
Lyft Pink members will now receive a complimentary Grubhub+ membership, therefore anyone with a Sapphire Reserve card will now get a free Grubhub+ membership!
For those unfamiliar Grubhub, it’s one of the largest food delivery networks in the country, boasting over 300,000 restaurants on its platform in more than 4,000 U.S. cities.
GrubHub+ is priced at $9.99 a month and offers a number of perks, including:
- Grubhub+ members get unlimited free delivery on orders of $12+ from restaurants in the Grubhub+ network
- Exclusive perks like free food, discounts and more
- Donations made through Donate the Change will be matched by Grubhub on all Grubhub+ orders
- Access to Elite Care teams for priority assistance
The Chase Sapphire Reserve gets more valuable
Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders already receive a complimentary DoorDash Dashpass membership (must activate by 3/31/2022). So while this feels like a duplicative benefit, Grubhub does have many different restaurants on its platform, operates in more cities and also has its “perks” program which offers exclusive discounts at many restaurants. Plus, there are always a ton of promo codes floating around for Grubhub, offering free or discounted food.
This new benefit makes the Sapphire Reserve even more valuable. The face value of a yearly Grubhub+ membership would be $120 — if you value that at just 50%, you’re still extracting another $60 of value from the card (which does come with a sizeable annual fee).
Remember the Sapphire Reserve already earns 3x points on dining purchases and Grubhub codes as dining with Chase. Earning 3x points per dollar equates to a 5.1% return per our Chase points valuations.

Bottom Line
It's always good to see a premium credit card getting more perks, which make it a bit easier to swallow the $500+ annual fees they usually charge. Chase has also added other pandemic-related benefits to its Sapphire cards, including use points (at great rates) to cover grocery, dining and home improvement store purchases through its Pay Yourself Back program.
