We’ll be earning 70,000 American Airlines miles, 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points, and up to 60,000 Southwest points after meeting the minimum spending requirements!
How to Meet the Minimum Spending Requirement for the New Chase Sapphire Preferred Card
Sometimes, it helps to be a little bit creative when trying to meet your minimum spending requirements. I look at what I can pre-purchase that I’ll end up using over the following year. My mom likes to prepay insurance and her phone bill to help her meet the minimum spending. Recently, I’ve used my new credit card for healthcare expenses. It’s up to you on how you want to spend on your new credit cards. Here are some things I’m doing:
- Purchasing contact lenses (2019 supply)
- Ordering my dog’s flea prevention medicine (2019 supply)
- Prepaying for my internet and phone bills
- Ordering baby shower, Christmas & birthday gifts
- Paying for home repair services
- Paying for healthcare expenses
- Stocking up on groceries

Why Apply for a New Travel Credit Card?
All those miles and points earned from our recent travel credit card applications will get us several very cheap round-trip domestic flights (taxes and fees are usually ~$10!), and the Southwest points will also count towards the Southwest Companion Pass, which I can use for 2-for-1 flights! These amazing benefits make applying for credit cards–and taking the time to track spending–worth it!
