Great news for those of us who opened a Chase travel card in the past few months. Chase is responding to the fact that its customers may not be keen on spending as much money as they had planned, now that the coronavirus has incarcerated the country.

Meeting minimum spending requirements has just become a whole lot more difficult for many — and those out of work will not be as loose with their money. Because of this, Chase has extended the minimum spending requirement for certain cardmembers. Do you qualify?

Three extra months to earn Chase sign-up bonuses

If you opened a Chase credit card between January 1 and March 31, 2020, Chase is giving you an extra three months to earn your sign-up bonus. Any U.S. consumer, whether you’ve opened a personal or small business card, is eligible, including:

It was previously reported that customers had to send an extension request via secure message to Chase, but now there is no action necessary on your part — Chase has automatically provided the extra time for you.

That’s a big deal to many of us — I opened World of Hyatt Credit Card in January, and I’m grateful for an extension. Note that this offer doesn’t currently extend to those who sign-up for new cards (though that may change in the future). If you don’t think you’re in the financial position to meet spending requirements at this time, take a break. Travel cards will continue to offer amazing bonuses, and spending money just to reach a bonus isn’t worth going into debt and bending the knee to high interest rates.
