But what if you already have a Chase Ink Card?  Can you get a new 1 with a chip?

According to Travel With Grant, Chase is issuing new Chase Ink cards with chips built-in.

The Chase Ink Plus currently has an outstanding 70,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards point sign-up bonus when you apply in a Chase branch.

Current Chase Ink cardholders will have their old cards updated over time.  If not having a chip in your card puts a chip on your shoulder, you can call Chase.

But Chase won’t necessarily send you a new Chip & Signature version of the card right away.

And Chip & Signature technology is NOT the same as Chip & PIN, so it may not be as helpful as you’d like when traveling overseas.  But in general the Chase Ink Plus and Ink Bold are good to use when outside of the US because they don’t have foreign transactions fees.

The Chase Ink cards join the Chase Sapphire Preferred which is already being issued as Chip & Signature.  The Chase Sapphire Preferred also has no foreign transaction fees when you use it abroad.

Earlier this year, the Delta American Express cards added Chip & Signature technology while removing their foreign transaction fee.

And the Barclaycard Arrival Plus now has a Chip & Signature AND the option to use a PIN.  Combined with no foreign currency fee, this makes the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard especially useful in places like Europe with automated vending machines that sell train and bus tickets.

Bottom Line

Chase is sending out new Ink Plus and Ink Bold cards with Chip & Signature technology.  If you already have the card, it will eventually be updated.

Do you feel added security and convenience with Chip & Signature cards?  Or does it not make much difference to you?
