I recently went to Costco to finish out my Chase Freedom category spending to get the full 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points.  Time’s running out because you only have until December 31, 2018, to complete your category spending to earn 5X the points per $1 spent (up to $1,500) on your Chase Freedom credit card.

You can get great deals on travel when you move points from your Freedom card to any of these:

(Remember, to earn credit card bonuses you must meet the card’s minimum spending requirement.)

7,500 points can be enough for a 1-way flight to lots of destinations!  Don’t leave points on the table and earn the maximum 7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for doing spending you’d do anyway!

Chase Freedom Quarter 4 2018 Category Bonuses

Chase Freedom Quarter 4 2018 Category Bonus

This quarter (October – December 2018)  you get 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per $1 spent at:

  • Department Stores
  • Wholesale Clubs
  • Chase Pay

How I Maximized My Chase Freedom Q4 2018 Category Bonus

I’ve been using my Chase Freedom credit card throughout the quarter (October – December 2018) to earn 5X points at department stores, wholesale clubs, and Chase pay.  I checked my Chase Freedom category bonus, and realized I still needed to spend ~$500 to earn all the points.  To check how much you’ve spent on your Chase Freedom credit card, log into your Chase account and navigate to your Chase Freedom credit card.

To make sure I maximized the bonus, I went to Costco for my annual stock-up.  I bought ~$500 worth of groceries and household items like laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, and paper towels.  I know I’ll be using these things throughout the year.  I gave some of the items I bought to a single mom with 3 kids.  If you know families in need, it can be a great idea to buy some things to help support your community.

Transfer Your Chase Freedom Points to Get the Full Value

7,500 Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth $75 cash back.  But I get A LOT more than $75!  Chase points are worth much more when you transfer them to Chase’s travel partners like Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, and Hyatt hotels.   I transferred my Chase Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest and booked 2 flights to San Diego for just 20,000 points.  So 7,500 points can be enough for a 1-way flight to lots of destinations!

To get the full value of your points, move your Chase Ultimate Rewards points from your Chase Freedom credit card to any one of these Chase credit cards:

Activating the Chase Freedom Bonus

Each quarter, you need to activate the bonus on your credit card.  To me, this is the most annoying aspect of having my Chase Freedom.  I would love if Chase made this automatic.  The activation date already passed for quarter 4.  You can save reminders to your calendar by visiting the Chase website and downloading reminders.

Remembering Chase Freedom Quarterly Bonus Categories

Each quarter, I  label my credit card with a small sticky note that has the spending category.  Otherwise, I tend to forget what the category bonus is.  At Million Mile Secrets, we always announce the Chase Freedom quarterly bonus categories, so sign up for our free email newsletter so you’ll get automatic reminders in your inbox!
