Via Frequent Miler, you can now get $200 when you sign-up for the Chase AARP card and complete the minimum spending. That’s double the usual offer!
Don’t let the AARP name on the card make you think you don’t qualify. You don’t have to be an AARP member – anyone can sign-up!
Emily and I don’t earn a commission on this card, but we’ll always tell you about the best offers.
I’ll help you decide if this is the right card for you!
What’s the Chase AARP Card?

Anyone can apply for the Chase AARP card. And now when you sign-up and spend $500 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account, you’ll earn $200 in cash back!
Other perks include:
- 3 points per $1 you spend (3% cash back) at restaurants and gas stations
- 2 points per $1 you spend (2% cash back) on airfare and hotels when you book through Chase’s toll-free travel redemption number
- 1% cash back on everything else
- NO annual fee
The Chase AARP card is a Visa Signature card. So you’ll also be eligible for Visa discounts and a 6-month membership to CLEAR.
However, this is NOT a good card to use abroad, because you’ll pay 3% in foreign transaction fees.
If you’ve earned the sign-up bonus on this card before, according to the terms you’ll have to wait at least 24 months before you can earn the bonus again.
Don’t worry if you aren’t instantly approved, sometimes Chase just needs more details. So try giving them a call!
Once you complete the minimum spending, the bonus should credit to your account after your statement closes.
Should You Sign-Up for the Chase AARP Card?
The Chase AARP card is a great option for folks who prefer earning cash back. And it’s 1 of the best cash back cards for folks who do a lot of spending at restaurants and gas stations because you’ll earn 3% cash back. Plus, there’s NO annual fee!
However, Chase has new rules for approving folks for their cards. And while there are exceptions and I don’t think folks who are new to this hobby need to worry about this new rule, you may still want to apply for more lucrative Chase cards first!
For example, with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you can now earn an increased bonus of 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you complete the minimum spending requirements.
You can redeem 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for $500 in cash back (1 cent per point), $625 in travel (1.25 cents per point) booked through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, or Big Travel when you transfer points to airline and hotel partners:

Aer Lingus | British Airways | Flying Blue (Air France/KLM) |
Iberia | JetBlue | Singapore Airlines |
Southwest | United Airlines | Virgin Atlantic |
Chase Ultimate Rewards Hotel Transfer Partners | ||

Hyatt | IHG | Marriott |
Ritz-Carlton |
There is NO way to transfer the points you earn with the Chase AARP card to travel partners. You can only redeem those points for cash back.
There is an $95 annual fee (waived for the 1st year) with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. But the extra value you get with this card more than makes up for the fee.
And this is 1 card I happily pay the annual fee on each year, because I love earning 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on travel and dining.
And if you have a small business, you might also consider cards like the AMEX SimplyCash or Chase Ink Business Cash Credit Card instead of the Chase AARP card. Both cards have NO annual fee and you can earn 5% cash back or 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards at office supply stores (as well as cell phone and cable bills).
You’ll also earn a higher sign-up bonus of $250 in cash back when you complete the minimum spending on the AMEX SimplyCash card.
And the 20,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards point sign-up bonus you earn with the Chase Ink Cash is worth $200 in cash back, like the Chase AARP card.
But if you have other Chase cards, those points are more valuable!
It’s important to spread your applications across different banks. So if you recently applied for other Chase cards and don’t have a business, you can still earn $200 in cash back with cards like the BankAmericard Travel Rewards. Plus, there’s NO annual fee and you’ll earn 3X points on airfare through the Bank of America Travel Center.
Bottom Line
The Chase AARP card sign-up bonus has increased to $200 in cash back. That’s double the previous offer.
You’ll also earn 3% cash back at restaurants and gas stations and 2% cash back on airfare and hotels when you book through Chase’s toll-free travel redemption number.
Anyone can apply for the Chase AARP card! You don’t have to be an AARP member.
We don’t earn a commission on this card, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals!
This is a great card for folks who prefer the ultimate flexibility of cash back. But you if you have a small business, you may want to consider cards like the AMEX SimplyCash ($250 sign-up bonus) or Chase Ink Cash ($200 bonus) because you can earn 5% cash back at office supply stores and on cell phone and cable bills.
Folks saving their Chase applications for more lucrative cards might consider the BankAmericard Travel Rewards card. Because you’ll earn $200 in cash back for signing-up and completing the minimum spending. Plus, you’ll earn 3 points per $1 spent on airfare booked through the Bank of America Travel Center.
That said, I prefer to earn Big Travel with other Chase cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred. But if you prefer cash back, the Chase AARP card might be a good deal for you!
