If you’re a Chase IHG cardholder, here’s a deal just for you!
Via Loyalty Traveler, Chase IHG cardholders will receive a 15% discount on the cash portion of a Cash & Points booking. But you must book by February 12, 2017, and stay by March 31, 2017.
And you can use this discount to inexpensively “buy” points using the IHG Cash & Points Trick. I’ll explain.
Here are the details of this offer!
IHG Cardholders Get an Extra 15% Off
Link: 15% Off Cash & Points Bookings for Chase IHG Cardmembers
Until February 12, 2017, Chase IHG cardholders will get a 15% discount on the cash price of a Cash & Points booking.
There are a few restrictions:
- You must be logged-in to receive the discount
- You must stay by March 31, 2017
- The 15% discount is only applied to the cash portion of the price (you won’t pay 15% fewer IHG points)
- Bookings for The Venetian and The Palazzo hotels in Las Vegas do NOT qualify for this discount
- Other general IHG Terms and Conditions apply
This is a pleasant surprise for IHG cardholders! Though IHG has had similar promotions in the past.
This Promotion Makes the IHG “Points & Cash Trick” Even Better
You can usually buy IHG points for 1.15 to 1.35 cents each. But by using the IHG Points & Cash trick, you can “buy” points for as little as 0.6 cents each!
For example, you can normally book a room with Points & Cash at the Holiday Inn Express Mill Valley San Francisco Area for 20,000 IHG points plus $125. This room normally costs 40,000 IHG points.
But if you cancel your booking, you won’t get a refund on the cash portion. Instead, you’ll get to keep the points.
So, using the Points & Cash Trick, you’re basically purchasing 20,000 IHG points (40,000 IHG points – 20,000 IHG points) for $125. That’s ~0.63 cents per point (20,000 IHG points / $125),
But if you use this promotion AND the Points & Cash trick, you’ll pay even less for your IHG points!
During this promotion, you’ll get 15% off the $125 cost of the cash portion of the booking (~$106). So you’re essentially buying those same 20,000 IHG points for ~$106, or ~0.53 cents per point.
This is a great way to use this limited-time promotion to “buy” IHG points you can use long after the promotion ends!
For example, one of my favorite hotel promotions is IHG PointBreaks, where you can stay at participating IHG hotels for just 5,000 IHG points per night!
If you buy IHG points with this promotion and the “Points & Cash trick”, you’ll be paying ~$27 for 5,000 IHG points. So you can effectively buy a night at a participating IHG PointBreaks hotel for just $27!
That’s a great deal. And some participating hotels are really nice!
Consider Applying for the Chase IHG Card

I love the Chase IHG card, and I gladly pay its $49 annual fee each year. Because the ongoing benefits of the card, like an annual free night at any IHG hotel, are worth it to me.
The Chase IHG Rewards Club Card comes with:
- 60,000 IHG Rewards points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account
- 5,000 IHG points after adding an authorized user and making a purchase within the first 3 months of account opening
- $50 statement credit after your first purchase
- 1 free night at ANY IHG hotel worldwide each year after renewing your card membership
- $49 annual fee (Waived the fist year)
The annual free night at ANY IHG hotel is well worth the annual fee. Emily and I used a free night certificate to stay at a hotel that sells rooms for $1,000+ per night! As long as you stay at least once in an IHG hotel each year, you can more than make up for the annual fee with the free night certificate.
The Chase IHG card isn’t affected by Chase’s strict application rules. So even if you’ve applied for more than 5 cards in the past 24 months (except certain business cards), you can still get the Chase IHG card!
That said, if you’re new to the miles & points hobby, this is NOT a good card to begin with. There are other Chase credit cards that have more valuable travel benefits, which you should apply for first!
Bottom Line
IHG is giving their co-branded credit card members a 15% discount on the cash portion of Points & Cash bookings. But you must book by February 12, 2017, and stay by March 31, 2017.A 15% discount is a welcome promotion. But exciting part is that you can use this discount to buy points for EXTRA cheap by using the IHG Cash & Points Trick.
IHG normally sells points for up to 1.35 cents each. But you can buy IHG points for only ~0.53 cents each when you combine the IHG Cash & Points trick with this promotion.
