IHG Purchase Points Promotion
Through December 21, 2017, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time, IHG is offering a customized bonus on purchased points. Folks are reporting being targeted for up to a 100% bonus!
Team member Jason was targeted for an 80% bonus on purchases of 15,000+ IHG points. He could also earn a 60% bonus when he buys between 5,000 and 14,000 IHG Points.
Points must be purchased in 1,000-point increments, and there’s a limit of 60,000 purchased IHG points per calendar year (NOT counting bonus points).
If you are targeted for the 100% bonus, you’ll pay just ~0.57 cents per point ($690 / 120,000 points)!
Is This a Good Deal?
IHG normally sells points for 1.15 to 1.35 cents each. Or if you’re comfortable with it, you can buy points for as little as 0.6 cents each with the IHG Points & Cash trick. So if you’re targeted for the 100% bonus, this could be a good deal.
Category 1 IHG hotels cost 10,000 IHG points per night. So you could buy nights at those hotels for $57.50 (10,000 X .575 cents per point).
Or, if you can find a PointBreaks hotel that works with your travel plans, it will only cost 5,000 IHG points, or $28.75 per night (5,000 X .57 cents per point)!
But it’s NOT a good idea to buy points for just any IHG hotel stay.
The Staybridge Suites Lake Buena Vista, Orlando has rooms for ~$150 a night. But it costs 40,000 IHG points to book an award night. Even with this bonus, it would cost you $230 (40,000 X .575 cents per point) to buy the points to book the room.
So do the math first and make sure it’s a good deal for your situation before you buy any IHG points.
IHG hotels include:
- Candlewood Suites
- Crowne Plaza
- EVEN Hotels
- Holiday Inn
- Holiday Inn Club Vacations
- Holiday Inn Express
- Holiday Inn Resorts
- Hotel Indigo
- InterContinental Hotels & Resorts
- Staybridge Suites
It’s relatively easy to earn IHG points through the many promotions IHG publishes. IHG hotels are almost everywhere, which is convenient for road warriors. And you can redeem IHG points with one of the best deals in travel, the PointBreaks promotion!
More Ways to Earn IHG Points
To earn more IHG points, you can:
- Sign-up for the Chase IHG Rewards card. It’s a card I keep in my wallet year after year, because it comes with a free night each cardmember anniversary that can be worth hundreds of dollars!
- Use the IHG Cash & Points Trick to “buy” points for even cheaper
- Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points (I do NOT recommend this, because there are more valuable Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer partners)
IHG is having a sale on purchased points! Until December 21, 2017, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time, you can earn a customized bonus of up to 100%!
You’ll have to log-in to see what bonus you’re targeted for. This might be a good deal for some hotel stays, but definitely not all of them. So do the math first, to make sure it makes sense for your situation.
