British Airways Avios points are a handy tool in the miles & points hobby.  That’s because you can use them to book flights on British Airways partners like American Airlines, Iberia, Japan Airlines, and many more!  So you can fly just about anywhere.

Right now you can purchase British Airways Avios points for as little as ~1.3 cents each.  In my experience, it’s pretty effortless to receive a value greater than 1.3 cents each from British Airways Avios points.  If you have a certain trip in mind, do the math to see if purchasing points is a better deal than paying cash for your airfare!

I’ll show you how to get in on this deal.  And a couple ways you can use it to save BIG.

How to Purchase British Airways Avios Points at a Big Discount

Make sure you have Google Translate installed in your browser, because you’re about to navigate to a French website.  This process is pretty painless if your browser automatically translates the page for you.

Step 1.   Register at the Vente-Privee Website

Go to this link and sign-up for an account with Vente-Privee.  All you need to input is your name, birthday, and a postal code.  You’re creating a French account, so you’ll need to use a French postal code, like 4500, and you should be good to go.  This is not the first time Vente-Privee has had a sale like this, so you may very well use this account more than just for this current sale.

Note:   If you do NOT already have a British Airways account, you’ll need one of those.  You can sign-up for free here.

Step 2.   Navigate to the British Airways Sale Page

Click this link and you’ll be taken to the page where you can buy British Airways Avios points.  There are just 5 increments of points you can buy, but you can buy them multiple times (as long as your total isn’t above 100,000 points).  Here are the options:

When you make your purchase, you’ll receive an online voucher within a week.  You’ll need to redeem it by January 16, 2019, and your British Airways Avios points will be added to your account.

And remember to use a card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees for purchases, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (our #1 card choice for beginners!).

Why Should I Use This British Airways Sale?

There are plenty of ways to get Big Travel from British Airways Avios points.  For example, you can transfer the points to Iberia, British Airways’s partner airline, and fly from Chicago, Boston, or New York to Madrid in Business Class for 34,000 points and ~$97 in taxes (I just booked a ticket like that myself!)  That’s like buying a fancy lie-flat Business Class seat for just ~$550 (~$453 cost of 35,000 British Airways Avios points + ~$97 in taxes)!

Or, you could use British Airways Avios points to book off-peak coach seats between the East Coast (cities like Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, and New York) and Ireland for 13,000 points each way (though admittedly I’ve had trouble finding a lot of available seats on those particular routes in the past).

Note:   You can also accrue a bunch of British Airways Avios points in a hurry by opening cards like:
