Emily: Last year, my friend Kristen and I used our miles and points for a girls’ getaway to the Dominican Republic. We had a fabulous time and stayed in Santo Domingo, Bayahibe, and Bavaro.

Every Child Deserves an Education
While in Santo Domingo, we visited The Orientation and Development House, or Casa de Orientación y Desarrollo Real (CODR). Many children and women in the Dominican Republic may be forced into prostitution and human trafficking.
CODR was created to house and educate at-risk women to keep them off of the streets. Most of the women study medicine, law, or business.

This year, the women of CODR are having a fundraiser to purchase school supplies for children in need. Daraius and I will be donating money because we believe that every child has a right to an education. Help us achieve the goal to give basic school supplies to 500 needy kids!

It is a US based 501(c) (3) charity, which means that you may get a tax deduction for donations. I tried out the donation website and it was very easy to use.

Participate in a Cultural Exchange with CODR
In addition to donating money, don’t forget that you can also donate your time to CODR.
You can spend a day volunteering at CODR like I did, or you can volunteer for a longer time period. You can learn Spanish, dancing, and how to cook Dominican food. And you can assist the organization by teaching English, participating in community service events, and more! I had a great time volunteering and hope to return soon!
If you are interested in partnering with CODR for a cultural exchange experience, contact codr1780@gmail.com.
Bottom Line
We have so much in the US, and it’s important to remember the struggles of people around the world. Thanks for your support!
The Lampard Basic School, Lampard, Frankfield, Clarendon Jamaica (Center of the Island) desperately needs some help. The school was started in 1926. All 3 original students died in 2014. However, the school continues, albeit in poor condition. For example, no indoor toilet, and no play ground. Can you direct us to some help? Also, come to Jamaica and vit us and like us on Face Book.
Thank you.
