1.   50,000 Mile Lufthansa Card Ends June 30, 2013

I received an email from Lufthansa that the Barclaycard Miles & More World Elite MasterCard 50,000 Mile offer will end on June 30, 2013.

I’ve written about 18 ways to use Lufthansa miles and my favorite ways are to either use 12,000 Lufthansa miles for a domestic flight on United or US Air within the US or to use 52,000 Lufthansa miles for a 1-way award in Business Class from Europe to the US.

There is another offer for 50,000 miles, with a lower minimum spending requirement, but you may get fewer miles if you’re approved for a lower card with that offer.

I’ll wrap-up my Lufthansa series by next week, but here’s more than what you want to know about using Lufthansa miles!

“USING LUFTHANSA MILES” SERIES INDEX

To be clear – I wouldn’t apply for the Lufthansa card if I were new to miles and points.

If you’re new to miles and pointslike my mother-in-law, there are better cards for you to apply for like the Chase Sapphire PreferredChase Ink Plus, or the other cards on the Hot Deals tab.  But if you’ve been doing this for a while, the Barclaycard Miles & More World Elite MasterCard could make sense for you – especially if you can use their miles for travel within the US and save your more valuable miles.

But make sure you know the quirks of the program BEFORE you apply.  And read The 5 Dangers of Applying for Credit Cards as well!

2.    Fairmont Card

Rom’s Deals writes about the Fairmont card which waives the $95 annual fee for the 1st year.

The card has no foreign transaction fees, and gets you Fairmont Premier status (room and suite upgrades on paid stays) in addition to two free nights for 2 (includes breakfast).  You also get 1 free night after spending $12,000 within one calendar year.

However, there aren’t that many Fairmont hotels and some hotels don’t have very good award availability.

3.   United Business Card

I got a targeted 50,000 mile offer on the United MileagePlus Explorer Business card after spending $2,000 within 3 months.

I logged into my United.com account and clicked on the banner advertisement for the United MileagePlus Explorer personal card and then clicked the link at the top right which said “Are You a Business Card Owner?

There is more information in this FlyerTalk thread.  It seems that not everyone gets to see the targeted offer.

The United Business card gets you 1 free bag on United flights, priority boarding, and has no foreign transaction fees.

But unlike the personal version of the United card, you earn 2 points per $1 for dining, gas, and shopping at Office Supply stores with the United business card.  Remember that Office Supply stores sell gift cards to Amazon, Southwest, and also Visa and MasterCard gift cards.

You also get 10,000 extra United miles after spending $25,000 within 1 calendar year.

@MMS I haven’t had a United business card before, and had cancel my united explorer personal card earlier in the year. When I log into my MileagePlus I do see the an offer for 50k United explorer business., Would I be able to get it If I never had one, but had a personal explorer?

TomT – You should.

FYI-I applied for this card last week through your link and got denied stating that your offer had expired. I called and they said I had to apply through the Lufthansa website as your link had expired?!

Just thought I would pass along

@Nick – You can send a message or call and ask if you can get the targted 50K offer. Chase has terrific customer service so you never know. You could also ask them about the Sapphire – especially since you didn’t get the bonus the 1st time.

@Frank – Very interesting and thanks for sharing.

Hey D-money!

United Busines 50k – my wife and I only saw the 30k offer as well. I know I’ve heard of Chase bumping you up if there is a higher offer out there. YMMV of course, but what are the best practices for making that call successful? Another Chase question my wife had the Sapphire but missed the min spend. Cancelled the card at month 11. Can she try again or is it a 1-time deal? Fine print says “first time cardmembers”.

Excellent news, we weren’t planning on getting the Fairmont Card on our next AoR but it will be added, my partner and I are taking a trip to New England, NYC and DC, and will use the two free nights x 2 and plus well go the 12K spent and get two more nights, so our hotels are covered in NYC and DC… I love this hobby!

Yeh, I’m in the same boat. I want the business card but don’t want to get ahead of myself with spending; but I am afraid it will disappear on me like the Citi Platinum 50k offer did last week. I suppose these things pop up and go away and we just have to take our best guesses. 2k spending for 50k UA miles is pretty tempting though…

@Daniel – Glad I was able to help!

@goals^n^dreams @ Jamie – The 55K offer on the personal cards has been around for over 1 year, so hopefully the business card offer will last for a while too!
