Avianca is kind of a sleeper program in the miles & points hobby.  We don’t talk about it much, but you can do a whole lot with the Avianca miles.

Avianca is part of the Star Alliance, so you can book award flights on partner airlines like United Airlines and SWISS with Avianca miles.  Their award chart has sweet spots like flights within the US on United Airlines for as little as 7,500 Avianca miles.  That’s less miles than United Airlines will charge you, but with Avianca you will typically pay more in taxes and fees.

You can also book a Business Class flight to Europe for 63,000 Avianca miles.  So the miles are certainly valuable!  And right now, you can earn an increased welcome bonus on Avianca credit cards with a special code (up to 60,000 miles!)

Avianca Credit Cards Have Improved Bonuses

Both the Avianca LifeMiles Vuela and Avianca LifeMiles Vida cards have welcome bonuses 20,000 miles higher than normal.  And these cards are easy wins, because they have NO minimum spending requirement!  You’ll receive your miles after your first purchase!

You’ll earn:

  • Avianca LifeMiles Vuela – 60,000 Avianca miles (previously 40,000 miles)
  • Avianca LifeMiles Vida – 40,000 Avianca miles (previously 20,000 miles)

When you apply for these cards, you’ll see the standard 40,000 and 20,000 point offers.  So be sure to use code “LM17WB” on the application to get the bigger bonus!

These cards are issued by Banco Popular.  So if you’ve got lots of cards with other banks in the US, and you’re looking for another opportunity to earn miles, this is a great offer for you!

But if you’re new to the miles and points hobby, I would NOT recommend them.  There are better credit cards you should open first.  Because these cards will count toward your Chase “5/24” status and possibly limit you from being approved for their valuable cards.

So when you’re starting out, you’re better off getting a card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.  And you’ll still be able to book the same Star Alliance awards with partners like United Airlines and Singapore Airlines.

Let us know if you apply for these higher offers!

Just tried to apply (twice) using the promo code above, but a message popped up saying the promo code is not valid. Is there a newer code, or some work around? Thanks.

. . . and each has an annual fee . . .
