Now here’s a unique promotion! If you have an AMEX Membership Rewards small business card, you can apply to send wire transfers abroad and earn up to 30,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points.
It sounds shady, but this is a legit deal that’s been around a time or two. If your small business sends foreign payments, wire it through AMEX, link your card, and score enough points for a round-trip domestic award trip on many airlines!
Just don’t fall prey to a Nigerian prince who’s been trying to give you a very large inheritance. 😉
Here are the full terms of the deal!
30,000 AMEX Membership Rewards Points for Wiring Money Overseas
Link: AMEX FX International Payments Promotions
If your small business employs merchants or contractors overseas, you likely send wire transfers as payment to avoid dealing with checks in the mail and wavering exchange rates.
AMEX has a service for this very reason – and you can initiate payment from any US business bank account. If you also have an AMEX Membership Rewards eligible small business card, you can add up to 30,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points to your balance!
There’s currently a promotion to earn:
- 15,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after you send your first $500+ international wire payment within 30 days of enrolling for the service
- An additional 15,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after you send 3 more $500+ international wire payments within 90 days of your first payment
AMEX sent an email to many of their small business cardholders, but I was able to find details online here.
To get set up with the service, you have to schedule a call with an AMEX representative. And apparently, there’s documentation required. For example, AMEX wants to know if you send international payments for business purposes, and verifies your bank accounts. So it’s unlikely you’ll be eligible without a legitimate business reason for the payments.
Avoid Fees While You’re at It!

If this promotion fits your needs and you have an AMEX small business card, like The Blue Business®️ Plus Credit Card from American Express, the usual $10 fee for the service is waived for the first 6 months. That gives you plenty of time to meet the promotion terms – and score a nice amount of points – for free!
Plus, folks with The Business Platinum® Card from American Express get their fees waived all the time (See Rates & Fees). So if your business sends a lot of foreign payments, you can save on the conversion to the 80+ currencies AMEX exchanges for your US dollars. And you might consider switching to this service for your business long-term, which would be a win-win because you’ll also earn 1 AMEX Membership Rewards point per $30 you send, with a cap of 4,000 points per transaction. Just make sure exchange rates are favorable before you commit.
