INSIDER SECRET: Collecting transferable rewards points, like the AMEX Membership Rewards points you’ll earn with this card, is the key to travel flexibility. That’s why they should be a part of everyone’s miles and points strategy.
I’ve had The Business Platinum® Card from American Express for over three years and plan to keep it for the foreseeable future. Even though the card has a big annual fee, I’ve been able to continually get outsized value from the card’s benefits.
I’ll explain my favorite AMEX Business Platinum perks, along with the card’s other benefits, and help you decide whether this card makes sense for you.
My Favorite AMEX Business Platinum Perks Make This Card Worth It Every Year
The two card perks I value the most are the 35% rebate on points bookings made with my selected airline and lounge access.
35% Points Rebate
As an AMEX Business Platinum cardholder you get:
- 35% of your points back for ALL First Class or Business Class flights booked through the AMEX travel portal
- 35% of your points back for all flights, including coach tickets, booked with your selected airline through the AMEX travel portal
I chose United Airlines as my selected airline because they offer the most flight options out of my smaller home airport of Missoula, Montana. Last year alone I saved over 100,000 points using the 35% AMEX Membership Rewards points rebate and used AMEX Membership Rewards points for flights to destinations including Denver, Santa Barbara, Chicago, and London.
I’m usually traveling with my 3-year-old daughter so for me, lounge access is a lifesaver. Not only does it provide a quiet and comfortable place for us to relax, but also I undoubtedly save hundreds of dollars on food and beverage costs every year. (Mom gets a free glass of wine and everyone’s happy!)
With the AMEX Business Platinum card, you’ll get access to airport lounges with Priority Pass, Centurion, Delta SkyClub, and AirSpace Lounges around the world and you can visit an unlimited number of times. Just be sure to carefully check the guest policy if you are traveling with a partner or other family members.
Depending on how often you visit, and if you have any guests, you can get real value at a lounge from Wi-Fi, complimentary food and drinks, showers, and more comfortable seating.
These benefits, along with the other AMEX Business Platinum card perks like up to $200 in airline fee credits per calendar year for airline incidentals with your selected airline (luggage fees, in-flight food & drink, etc.) make the card’s heftier annual fee worth it for me.
Right now, the AMEX Business Platinum card is offering up to a 75,000 AMEX Membership Rewards point welcome bonus after you meet tiered minimum spending requirements. You’ll earn:
- 50,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after you spend $10,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
- 25,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points after you spend an additional $10,000 on qualifying purchases within the same time frame
That’s easily worth $1,000+ in free travel, depending on how you use them. Read our full American Express Business Platinum card review for all the details.
