Good news for folks planning a trip across the pond soon!

Via View From the Wing, you can earn up to 20,000 bonus American Airlines miles on round-trip trans-Atlantic flights booked and flown through March 31, 2017.

You’ll earn bonus miles when you fly American Airlines (plus certain British Airways, Finnair, or Iberia flights) and credit flights to your American Airlines account.  But you must register for the promotion.

Most paid flights, like First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy, and some coach tickets qualify.  But you’ll earn the most bonus miles for First Class tickets.

Through March 31, 2017, you can earn up to 20,000 bonus American Airlines miles when you fly round-trip between North America and Europe on American Airlines.  And on British Airways, Finnair, and Iberia, if American Airlines markets the flight.

To register for the offer, log-in with your American Airlines frequent flyer account information, and enter code “NAS17” when prompted.

Most paid tickets, except a few discount coach fares, will qualify.  Award flights are NOT eligible.  You can check out the terms and conditions for details.

The number of bonus miles you’ll earn per round-trip (earn half for one-way flights) depends on the class of service and fare type:

  • Coach (Y, H, K, M, L, W, V, G, Q, N, O or S fares):   5,000 bonus American Airlines miles
  • Business Class (J, R, D or I fares):   10,000 bonus American Airlines miles
  • First Class (F or A fares):   20,000 bonus American Airlines miles

And the maximum amount you can earn through this promotion is 40,000 American Airlines miles (2 round-trip First Class tickets).

Is It Worth It?

If you’re already planning a trip to Europe this winter or early spring with a paid ticket, this could be a decent deal.  Especially if you can find a cheap ticket that’s eligible!

For example, I found a qualifying coach ticket from New York (JFK) to Paris departing March 22, 2017, and returning March 29, 2017, for ~$519.

That said, I wouldn’t go out of my way to take advantage of this offer, because you’ll have to buy a First Class ticket (and spend a lot of money!) to earn the maximum bonus.

But I always recommend signing-up for promotions like this, even if you don’t have a particular trip in mind.  Because it only takes a few minutes, and you never know when a travel opportunity might come up.
